The folk at Arden St could not have given us a better impression of Dunedin. Such a warm welcome in a lovely, historic, quirky house close to everything we wanted to see and more. My 12 year old felt totally at home in his cosy single room. The big room had everything we needed. We loved sharing a meal with Dave & Joyce and their delightful neighbours and other guests. An all round great experience and a good reason to return to a lovely part of the world.
Warm, Friendly and close to Town

Joyce, Dave and their Woofers were very welcoming and helpful. Great breakfasts and great advice on where to visit. Lovely quiet place to stay but only minutes into the city. Our room had an ensuite and was newly renovated.

Dunedin City is friendly, historical, full of character, and quirky (among many other very favourable descriptions). Atop a steep road (which is almost anywhere in Dunedin), sits a two storey B & B, where one can experience all the described Dunedin’s attributes in one location.
Upon arrival, you are very warmly greeted by Joyce and (sometimes) Dave, with the same sense of welcome one gets when being invited into another’s home, which of course is what true B & B’s are all about. It is, I think, unfair to think of such accommodation in the same way as a hotel (boutique or otherwise), and make such comparisons. B & B’s are another’s home (in this case Joyce & Dave’s), into which you are invited. It is important to remember it is THEIR home.
When one enters, you cannot ignore the obvious quirky character of perhaps both home and hosts, but this also reflects unique character in a historical home. Embrace it, and allow it to become another memorable (for all the right reasons) experience as part of your Dunedin adventure. An excellent guest compendium provides some details of their home and of the hosts, as well as all the relevant local information required.
Admittedly, I stayed in the Executive wing, so the description of my room may differ from others. My room was of a decent size, with a good sized sizeable ensuite Room contained a good work bench spacious wardrobe, mini fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making facilities. If I had to niggle about one thing. It would be the very soft queen sized bed. Being tall, my back prefers a firm mattress, but it was nevertheless very comfortable and warm, and I slept well.
Excellent free Wi=Fi is also available in all the rooms.
Additional to my room, there was also access to a large modern kitchen and large lounge, where one can socialize with other guests.
A simple continental breakfast is provided on a self-help basis.
A nice and cosi stay by the Dunedin Gardens

Great location for the lovers of long walks by the gardens, steep hills (including Baldwin Street, the world's steepest), and Signal Hill lookout.
Minutes from the university and public transit.
The staff is amazing and Joyce and Dave will make you feel at home with dinners by the terrace and a wholesome breakfast (this one is included, of course). Free wifi, laundry and cable TV...which you might not make use of it given tons to do around. A few trips to the local fish and chips are a must, so are the flat whites coffee!
What can I say

This is a place with a soul the bedroom had lots of personal touches and was extremely comfortable. The view from the window which you could see in bed was absolutely stunning. Good value for money. The shared bathroom and toilet were a bit off putting but the room made me forgive this lack of personal space. The artwork well what can I say mostly wasn't my taste but the house has humanity and humour. The breakfast table reflected the art a bit OTT but reflected the owners style. I would stay again definitely. The breakfast was fine with a good selection of teas.
