My wife and I stayed one night at The Artful Lodger while celebrating our wedding anniversary. We'd never stayed at a B&B before, so we were nervous about it, particularly in how it would differ from the hotels where we normally stay. But, our fears were pointless. The house is lovely, with a unique mix of old New England with modern amenities. We stayed in the Estella bedroom, and everything was perfect. We were the only guests that night, and though we met Ezra briefly when we arrived, and Phil at breakfast in the morning, we never felt like strangers in the house. It was very homey, and we had everything we needed. The upfront instructions for check-in were very helpful, and coming and going was very easy. Breakfast was tasty (terrific banana walnut muffins, lemon-poppy muffins and sweet bread french toast, all highly recommendable). We had a very nice chat with Phil over breakfast, and got to know more about the town and his family. To top it all off, there was a huge rainbow visible over the ocean from the breakfast room. Overall a very welcoming experience. (NOTE: We'd give it a five-star rating, but having no other b&b experience to compare it too, we opted for four.)

My husband and I spent 2 nights at this quaint Bed & Breakfast. Phil, the owner, was accommodating with our pre-visit questions, as well as during our entire stay. This lovely B&B is located close to all the mansions, the Cliff Walk, and many other points of interest. Also, a private parking lot is an added convenience Artful Lodger Inn provides. Phil suggested several wonderful dining options in town and we were glad we decided to try them. Our room (Havisham) had THE most comfy bed and soothing Jacuzzi. To top it all off, a delicious breakfast is served on the 3rd floor in a pleasant sunroom with a spectacular view of the Newport Harbor. Thank you, Phil, for a very pleasurable lodging experience!

My fiancé and I were looking for a great weekend getaway and landed upon this cute little bed and breakfast located in the central part of Newport.
Close to the beach, restaurants, shopping, and the famous mansions.
Everything is within walking distance.
Amazing service, very clean, friendly, and great breakfast served fresh every morning.
We will be back for sure. Missing the beach already:(

This is a charming bed and breakfast. Spotlessly clean, easy parking, central location, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Delicious hot breakfast Could not have had a better experience. Would stay again.

Artful Dodger is a nice work in progress. A young Inn owner, Phil is a lovely host who tries very hard to manage his evolving little enterprise. Clearly, he loves what he does and is making every effort to upgrade his property over time. The Inn is a great place to stay as long as you manage your expectations. The rooms and property need updating, which Phil plans to do as his business grows, but they are certainly more than adequate. We found the beds really comfy, the private parking a huge plus in Newport and the made-to-order breakfast just what we needed. The breakfast room has a nice long distance view of Newport Harbor.
The Artful Lodger is not one of those high-end B&B places, but again it fits the bill if you know what to expect. The Inn represents a reasonable value in this otherwise pricey town and we wish Phil lots of success.
