Ascendence B & B is a wonderful home away from home. Located in a beautiful old mansion, the rooms are spacious and seriously vintage as well as extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are wonderful and the host is friendly, kind and ready to help in any way.

This place was sadly in need of upkeep, but that is not our biggest concern. After one month of disputing the unauthorized charges, we still have not been refunded by the hotel owners, even after speaking with them on the phone and being promised an immediate resolution.

The hosts were very friendly, but aside from a ramp to the deck, this property is by no means accessible for people with disabilities. We stayed one night in the suite on the main floor. The bathroom is not accessible - the toilet is too low, and tub/shower combination is difficult to get into for someone with a disability, and there was no seat for the shower. There was one handrail on the back of the tub enclosure, but no bar/railing to help get in and out. Lesson learned, ask more questions when booking and don't assume that because you see the word accessible the property is actually accessible. We booked in for four nights, and had to change our accommodations after only staying one night as my husband couldn't use the bathroom. As this property cancellation fee only applies if you cancel a booking 72 hours prior to staying, we didn't receive anything back and had to pay for another place to stay.

Stayed 3 nights in the Artist Suite but really should have just left, even though I had paid for the 3 nights. The house smells damp/moldy, spider in the washroom, and overall the house didn’t appear to be well maintained. The breakfast was mediocre, the orange juice tasted diluted, the quality of the cooking was low, and wanting assigned breakfast times for 8 people seems a tad ludicrous. They charge first class prices, but aren’t much above a hostel. The best way to describe this location is to say they need a large capital injection to fix many issues, and I wouldn’t recommend this B&B to others.

This lovely old house was not quite what we were expecting after staying in several North American B and B's in the past. Hosts Catherine and Dan were really friendly and helpful but have obviously taken on quite a challenge to maintain the propert; it doesn't deserve, yet, to be called "luxurious" and was a bit overpriced for its current state but I'm sure they'll get there eventually. Our room, the Auditor's Suite was lovely, spacious and comfy. Breakfast was great, if a little sweet perhaps for English visitors more used to a savoury breakfast, but plentiful and good strong coffee! Access was interesting, but not impossible, and the location was handy for Halifax centre and a short walk to a really nice family restaurant with harbour views - also a very pretty walk back admiring the lights! We especially enjoyed sitting outside late in the evening putting the world to rights with Catherine,Dan and other guests. It's that sort of engagement with others that makes a B and B stay so special.
