Basics

Stayed there one night, easy check in/out. A little bit from downtown, so put on good walking shoes. Good wifi. Nice big room, but nothing fancy. Not that clean. Sadly no place to sit outside in privacy. We came before the reception was open, but they had a luggage storage until they opened, so we could to into town meanwhile.

Very nice place for a short stay.

The main idea was to see Corals and Kuranda, so it was OK to stay. Heather was very helpful. The location was good, It was not crowded area, there were nice restaurants and 24 hour open IGA convenient store close by. The room had microwave and refrigerator to have quick meals in the room in the middle of the night or so. No complains. It was worth the money.

Studio room was stinky, filthy floor, rusty, tiny, lumpy bed; no restaurant

MonkeyQueenToronto on 05/08/2017 22:20

I usually start with the positives, but there are so many negatives that I need to get them out of my system. I paid $60 for a studio room for the night. Here's my experience:
- I arrived at 4 pm, and although I had prepaid for my room, my first view was of a locked gate, a "No Vacancy" sign, and a shut reception door with a "closed" sign in the window.
- I knocked and got no response; then I discovered that the reception door was unlocked, so I went in and yelled "hello" several times. After no response for several minutes, I went outside to the night check-in phone. While it was ringing, a woman started yelling at me from across the parking lot that I shouldn't be phoning because reception is open. She talked to me as though I had done something wrong in calling the night reception when I found the reception area abandoned.
- Reception told me she was having a difficult day. I said, "That's OK, I understand;" and she responded with, "No, you *don't* understand."
- When I asked about the motel restaurant (which their website, and other advertising says they have), she told me that there is an Indian restaurant next door that is not affiliated with the motel, and told me of other places that I could walk to for dinner.
-The studio room is tiny: only 1.85 m wide
- The smell of mold is overpowering
-the carpet is old, badly stained, not attached to the underfloor, and wasn't vacuumed
- all of the metal fixtures in the room, including furniture, is rusty
-the bed is lumpy and lopsided
-the bathroom is not a separate room
-the sink drains slowly
-there is a locked door to an adjoining room, but it lacks soundproofing, so you can hear absolutely everything, even the rustling of a paper bag being opened.
-the only window in the room opens onto a dark, cluttered storage room
The positives:
The kettle works, and there is complimentary coffee and tea supplies in the room
- the sheets and towels were clean
- the shower works
-I was able to walk (30 minutes) to the motel from the train station with my luggage
-the tiny TV works
-free wifi that works in the room

Decent motel

LIfesgreattravel on 22/07/2017 11:34

We were pleasantly surprised with this motel. It was very clean and decent for the price. We knew we would only be sleeping in our room so we were looking for a clean, quiet, comfortable place to sleep. This was perfect. Not fancy. Location is a bit off for walking but not terrible.

Good Deal

I stayed here for three nights on a quick trip to Cairns from Brisbane. The smell of Indian food (there is a great Indian restaurant next door) and a friendly woman at the desk greeted me on a rainy afternoon. My room was basic but clean and fairly spacious for one person. It was nice to have a fridge and tea/coffeemaker. The bed was fine. It's about a 20-minute walk to the Esplanade, but there are some spots to eat close by, including the aforementioned Tandoori Nights and the quirky Flying Monkey Cafe. I didn't realize that checkout was 10am, and I had gone out that morning, planning to come back at 12noon to check out. When I returned, there was a note from the housekeepers saying that they had cleaned the room, taken my bags, and locked them up. Luckily I found them right away so that I could get my bags and make my afternoon flight. I felt bad for inconveniencing them, but they were gracious and kind. Definitely a solid place to go if you are on a budget and don't need to stay right in the middle of the action on the waterfront.
