We stayed here for 5 nights and weren't sure what to expect. What a pleasant surprise! The place is a traditional home converted into a hotel. The manager, Julio, is also the owner of the property and is a very gracious, caring and helpful man. He made sure we were looked after the entire time. The room was simple but nice and clean. There was also a safe in the room. Some people reviewers complained that the walls were thin but we didn't find this a problem. We could hear voices in the hotel but were not bothered by it. The air conditioning worked really well which was nice because Cartagena is hot! There is no hot water in the hotel, however this is not an issue. The shower water is a perfect temperature. The property itself is wonderful. We always felt very secure and safe. The hotel extends right to the beach where it is connected to a lounge area and outdoor bar/restaurant run by Marta. She makes delicious drinks and food. The lounge area has big comfy beds in cabanas to lay on and soak up the rays. The beach is fantastic. It goes on for miles and the sand is soft. On one side of the property are all the big hotels, on the other side are where the locals live. We were so happy that we booked here instead of a chain hotel. We felt like we got a real Colombian experience. The breakfast at the hotel was also very good. I can't think of anything bad to say about this hotel. We were very sad to leave. I was surprised to find this hidden treasure. I have been traveling to Cartagena for over 10 yrs off and on and was my first time in the La Boquilla area. If you like a less crowded beach then this is your place. I stayed for the new years and I am glad I stayed here instead of Bocagrande.
A special thanks to Julio and his staff for treating us like we were at home! Great price that includes breakfast.

I hesitate to put a bad review for this place because the people that work there are lovely and I'd hate them to lose future business. However, we were severly misled and way overcharged for the quality of this house.
We rented out the entire house/hotel (6 bedrooms) for a family vacation. It was rented under the premis that we were to be the only people allowed at the residence. But apparently, the owner allows his friends to also come and go as they please. We were welcomed upon returning to the house, with a couple making out on the couch in the living room area; among many other visitors during our week stay.
First, the house is located in an area where we were repeatedly told by waiters, taxi drivers, retail personnel, and even police officers is not safe for tourists. We were instructed to not be outside of the house at night; and if returning after dark, to be dropped off by taxi right at the front door.
Also, which isn't mentioned in any description, there is no hot water in the house. While the water isn't freezing due to the temperature in Cartagena, if you're used to a nice warm shower, it's definitely something you'll have to adjust to....especiallly if you plan on washing your hair. They also don't have bath mats so the floors in the bathrooms get very wet and dirty quickly with all the sand.
If you plan on renting the entire house, and would like to ever use the kitchen....think again. It's barely functioning and I don't know how the employeess are able to prepare breakfast each day. There were only two knives, both of which had the handles broken off and were so dull I could barely cut anything. There is barely usable cookwear without handles or matching lids, and what is there, is worn out from being so ridiculously old. There is no oven, no air conditioning, and only one tiny countertop. And trying to find a bowl for the guacamole after it was made was nearly impossible. I feel incredibly bad for the employees as they're expected to prepare any type of meal with such shoddy equipment and facilities.
The noise at night between barking dogs and neighbors roosters will definitely keep you up as well. And you can hear every little noise throughout the house from the bedrooms, so definitely pack ear plugs. And the beds are incredibly hard....but some prefer that, so that may not be a negative.
The stench in the bedroom my husband and I stayed in was absolutely horrible. After the first day or two, we learned that if we kept the bathroom door closed with that window open, it became much more bearable. But we still have no idea what caused it to be so bad.....perhaps plumbing that's not up to par to say the least.
There also is no air conditioning in the common areas as stated in the ad. There is only AC in the bedrooms, nowhere else.
The jacuzzi doesn't work. We were told that it needed a new motor. There was no attempt to fix it, and no offer of compensation for the lack of being able to use it was made.
On the upside, the employees were both really great! They tried to make us feel as comfortable as was possible and aid in the enjoyment of our stay. The house is located right on the beach which is also a plus. You do get to see the "real" Cartagena and not just the touristic spots while staying here so it is a bit more authentic in that regard......but may be better just for a short drive thru, rather than a week long stay with 12 people.
