What People are saying

Disappointed

ginarose35 on 20/11/2017 19:16

I am bummed about my recent stay at this "Boutique" hotel. The staff was friendly. The hotel lobby was cozy and nicely maintained. The adjoining restaurant served good food. I am super let down about the room.

I spent hours reviewing various hotels and their amenities. I scrutinized the square footage. I scrolled through countless images of different hotel rooms and suites trying to find the perfect setting for a surprise romantic getaway for my love. I specifically choose Auberge du Vieux Port for 2 reasons; the Premiere rooms had large, jetted tubs that could accommodate 2, and the rooms featured exposed brick or stone wall(s). Our room did have a large, jetted tub, but only plain, beige walls. Ugh. I could have had those walls in every other hotel room in Montreal at half of the price. I am so torn in posting this review because I realize that not having exposed brick or stone walls seems like such a trivial thing to complain about- I get it. But, I had spent a great deal of time planning this surprise for my boyfriend. He is crazy about exposed brick walls and has a great interest in architectural details. I live in a Victorian home that was built in 1886. He works in the stone industry. Boring? Yes, but we both dig exposed brick walls! I specifically paid more for the Premier room because these features were listed on the hotel's website as part of the room decor. When I broached the subject at the front desk I was told that this was one of the hotel's best rooms and part of the package I had booked on Expedia. I (wrongly) assumed that Expedia room desription details were the same as the hotel's.

Needless to say I didn't make a huge fuss or throw a tantrum after inquiring once. I didn't tell the hotel staff that this whole weekend was a surprise for my love. I didn't mention that he has cancer and is scheduled for a biopsy for another lump later in the week. I didn't gripe about the fact that I chose the Old Port over other fantastic Montreal neighborhoods because of exposed brick walls(sorry to keep repeating!). I chose this hotel over the brand new William Gray because of, you guessed it-the brick walls.

I chose this hotel because I knew my love would tire easily and that we would spend one of our 2 nights in Montreal snuggled in bed, admiring the beauty of our room. Instead, I focused on drastically slanted floors and how the modern style tv unit looked as if it were desperately fighting an uphill battle. We commented on how the hotel should place shims under one end to accommodate the floor slant. I lay in bed noticing the broken off medallion on the footboard of the bed and how the front facing tiles were missing grout.

I'm sure that some will say I should have voiced my displeasure more forcefully. As a member of the service industry I have found that I tend to go out of my way for those who ask for things nicely. Lesson learned. Ha! All in all our trip was bot ruined as we were just happy to be in each other's company. My love was so overwhelmed and appreciative of the surprise and my efforts and having a quiet weekend to shop and spa. This hotel did not severely detract from our fun, but it is always lovely and stands out when a business strives to meet or exceed one's expectations. This, unfortunately, was not one of those times.

A lovely hotel for groups, right in the heart of charming Old Montreal!

We were a group of seven and we had two 2-bedroom lofts right in the same building, and it helped make our vacation perfect. With a fully stocked kitchen, a dining room and a comfortable living room, we were able to visit with family over dinners, just like we were at home. Old Montreal is so full of charm, and it was easy to explore for every age group in our party.
Above all, the service at the hotel was incredible. From the charming parking valet to the wonderful front desk who found us flat parsley on a Friday evening when my mom forgot something she needed for her recipe, we knew everything we needed was just a phone call away.
I will never stay anywhere else in Montreal again This hotel is now my home away from home.

Great Hotel with a View!

Warm and inviting from the minute you step in off the street. Fireplace, lounge areas, beverages are all available in the tasteful lobby. Reception personnel are exceedingly courteous and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, overlooking the park and St. Laurence river. The restaurant is excellent, and not overpriced. Valet parking is available (extra fee) with very quick and cheerful response time. Centrally located in old city within easy walk to everything. We would definitely stay here again!

The staff lead by Michael, superbe in every way. We were greeted warmly by the night staff upon arrival. The loft was very comfortable as described online. Very spacious with in floor heating in the bathroom. Will definitely stay again. Thank you for the pleasant overall experience.
