It is really unfortunate that this incident has marred our visit to the Holy Grotto in Portland, Oregon over this last Thanksgiving weekend. The Grotto was very beautiful and meaningful as we were able to bring our children to experience such a peaceful place and spend precious time with their elderly aunts and uncles who don't really have all that much time left with us.
This was particularly important, as our aunt who accompanied us is a stage 4 cancer patient who was diagnosed several years ago. We literally do not know how much time she has left.
Which brings us to our disappointment as to how we were treated.
Having three children in tow, one of whom is still in kindergarten, plus a stage 4 cancer patient, is not a situation to take lightly. We made arrangements for a hotel stay in Auburn as it is not only the midway point in our long drive but also where we have elderly relatives we were supposed to visit. We were sold on the idea of a simple place to stay but were dismayed to discover only through some online comments here on TripAdvisor that the entire hotel was under renovation. Not just the lobby area, as we were led to believe by a Groupon. This is an unacceptable situation for our family. It is bad enough that we would be exposing our children to potentially hazardous chemicals or work areas, but it is even worse to be putting a medically diagnosed stage 4 cancer patient in such a location.
We understand that bookings always have some sort of condition but we were hoping for some understanding on the part of the hotel and/or Groupon - especially since the hotel itself was asking for OUR understanding of their predicament (we had called them up to ask if these online postings about the renovations were accurate and they confirmed these over the phone with us and asked for our understanding of their situation)
While a full refund is what we would expect, by way of alternative we were willing to simply rebook our stay in Auburn for a much later date, perhaps when the hotel was completely renovated. We were also willing to simply have Groupon credit for future purchases. None of these were granted. They simply took our money and ran with it.
It was bad enough to have to make alternative hotel arrangements while on the road already with our kids and relative in tow, but it feels so much worse to be taken advantage of by unfeeling, unscrupulous business practices by both Groupon and this hotel.
Rest assured that I and all my family, and all my friends and relatives, will NEVER STAY AT ANY ECONO LODGE FACILITY EVER AGAIN FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. We will also tell everyone we know to avoid this facility like the plague.

I did not know when I booked this hotel for an area conference that it was in transition from an EconoLodge to a Clarion hotel. Most of the rooms were under construction and unavailable. The whole place felt like it was in transition and it wasn't a very relaxing stay. The staff were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. The bathroom and bed were clean and the internet worked flawlessly. I would not choose to stay at this hotel again though because the construction was not something noted on any of my reservation materials.

Ok not sure why there is so many bad reviews here but for me it was perfect.
Booked online with no problems, when I got here this wonderful and very happy soul greeted us.
She worked 12 hours and still had a smile on her face.
Sure the room I was staying in was small 126 and the TV was old but I'm not here to watch it.
It was totally clean no dirty walls or mirrors and smell fine, you can order room service from some restaurant but I didn't.
Breakfast; it is just toast/cereal/coffee/biscuits and sauce stuff you put on the biscuit oh and you make your own waffles.
Want eggs and bacon go down the street.
This hotel was in a perfect location too, everything was near by and for the track we followed 1 road and about 15 minutes away .
Would I come back ? YES I WOULD, so stop thinking this is a 6* it is a sleeping room and get out and explore.
I will see you next year 😁

Booked a room or Trip advisor, first mistake. As soon as I got the confirmation I noticed that the date was not what I had selected. It was on a Sunday instead
of a Saturday and 2 weeks prior to my needed stay. I called Katrina with in 5
minutes of the reservation and told I could not get a refund and would need to
another reservation. When I tried to do so the cost for my stay was twice as much.
I called back and told her and she told me she would make notes in the computer
and refund my reservation since I had called immediately after making the reservation.
5 days before the reservation date I received a e-mail as a reminder. I called and found
out that I had been lied to and no credit to my account was made. Tried to get some
kind of help with this matter and was told nothing could be done. They have no problem charging customers for no services rendered. Lesson learned book with Booking.com or Trivago.com instead of Trip advisor and still get lowest price and lots less hassle.

I've stayed at this motel several times. This review is about the points system for Choice Hotels. Had car trouble and was unable to timely cancel my reservation.
I understand that there needs to be a deadline for cancellation. I don't agree with no reward points for a no show. I paid for the room and didn't use any towels or sheets.
Why no reward points when the motel makes more money on a no show?
