We were lucky enough to get a third floor room with a direct view over the lovely Rose gardens, which were in full bloom when we stayed this week.
Our room had two double beds in it (which we thought was a bit unusual) otherwise it would have been a bit less claustrophobic. The bathroom was well stocked with complimentary soaps and toiletries which was a nice touch. Overall the rooms were old fashioned and in need of a makeover but spotlessly clean. The staff were also very helpful and pleasant.
My husband and I were very impressed with the range of items on offer at the breakfast buffet and enjoyed it very much.
The hotel is in a good location for pleasant walks in the neighbouring gardens, into Parnell or into the city. Its a short walk from the excellent Rosies cafe/restaurant too.

We paid $170 a night for a small room with two double beds downstairs in the older part of the hotel (wouldn’t pay $170 in any other city for this 3 Star type room but Auckland is Auckland).
Beds were comfy which was good. Room had a smallish flat screen TV, fridge, jug, coffee cups and coffee etc...
Had to request the shower curtain in the bathroom to be changed because it had mould on it. This proved a bit difficult and staff were slightly rude about it. No apologies offered until check out.
On the topic of the bathroom in this room, it was tiny and you definitely won’t want to be tall in the shower. Tiles on the floor are cracked and need replacement however house keeping was good and so it was clean (well except that shower curtain until a new one was put up).
Basically if you want to stay somewhere even remotely close to Auckland but haven’t won lotto then this will do. The backpackers etc in Auckland are crap so come here and at least sleep in a quiet room. Have phone data though cos the wifi is rubbish!

The Rose Park is an older hotel and the rooms are compact, but everything you need is there. The staff is exceedingly helpful, the rooms are clean, and the beds comfortable. It also happens to be a 5 minute cab ride to the Strand Train Station (Wellington train), and if you have a car, I don't think they charge for parking....this in a city where you can pay $45NZ. It also has the benefit of being a block away from Rosie, a fabulous bistro.

A good value hotel which is pretty well located for airport transfer (about 35 minutes) or for getting into central Auckland (about 40 minutes walk). Room was spacious and comfortable with a selection on toiletries provided. Free car parking and free wifi in the room provided. Road outside busy during the day but had no problem with traffic noise at night. Lovely rose garden just across the road. Would stay here again.

i stayed here on two separate nights, the first was in the older section and although it was on the ground floor, quite dated and next to the car park i had a good night sleep. On my second stay (a Sunday night) i was given a room on the 3rd floor of the new building. Both rooms were very clean and full of your usual soaps etc. It is directly opposite the rose garden (hence it's name) and it was very nice walking around and relaxing. The property is located close to Parnell or only a very inexpensive taxi to other parts of the city, Ponsonby etc.
