By our opinion and experience "the" B.A. Hostel is great.
Very kind, helpful and welcoming stuff. Great breakfast (some would say simple...but you have fresh loaves of bread in the morning, few types of coffee, juice, milk, cereals, jams, chocolate cream spread, ham and cheese... - "almost" everything you need in the morning) that is included in the price.
The location of the Hostel is also very good. Some people will say that it has a lot of hills to climb until you reach it...but Hello, you're in Lisbon - if you don't have the hills, then you're somewhere else!
B.A. Hostel was actually around 700m from the central part (Cais do Sodre) and 50m from the main squares like Rossio. You also have 2 Metro stations around. You have a nice view right in front of the hostel. You have on of the main attractions in Lisbon - Elevador da Gloria...so if you don't want to climb the hill you can take advantage of the attraction.
The hostel is situated on a street with a lot of bars, where during the night the party is on. Despite that you have double windows in your rooms and the noise (if you could even hear any) stops around 2am. So the party outside didn't bother us at all
Our stay in B.A. Hostel was during the hottest days in Portugal/Lisbon....when the temperature was up to 43 degrees C, but we easily survived thanks to the air conditioners they have (in the room, and the common parts).
For the common parts - you have a nice lounge area with TV, table games, nice sofas and etc., you have balconies, nice kitchen that you can use, washing machine...and they also provide you a dryer for your own balcony and in the common area you also have a nice dining area).
Bathrooms were also great.
So if you're looking for a nice (even great) hostel with a reasonable price... B.A. Hostel would be the one for you.

We were kinda disapointed seeing the buidling, because it is old and in a very little street, but don't judge a book by its cover. This hostel was perfect! It is close to the city center so you are not obliged to take a bus to go eat or visit. We stayed in a private room for four persons with a private bathroom and it was just perfect, airco, enough space and a good window so that we could not hear the sounds on the street. The staff was very friendly and available 24hours which gave us a feeling of security, we could even ask them what to visit at 2 O'Clock in the morning, great people!
It is the perfect place for people who like to dance, cause it's in the Erasmus corner and there is a bar just next to the hostel, which is awesome. Because of this there a lot of people in the street which may be weird in the beginning but which is great actually.
Perfect place to stay with friends who like to visit the city but who also like life at night.

Pretty nice and comfortable hostel in the centre of bairro alto in Lisbon! I stayed in a double private room for two nights and everything was cool. The location is great, the included breakfast is good and the guys of the staff are very kind ! Recommand it.

This is well situated in the barrio alto area
Many restaurants and shops close by
Metro and trams are all close by or a short walk away
We were met promptly by Filomina and our room was clean and very roomy
At night the area is a bit of a party area w bars all around so just bring some earplugs and all will be ok
We will use this nice place again
Our friends said our place here was much nicer than theirs close by

I stayed with friends in private room with a shared bathroom. With a 24/7 front desk and having booked an extra night, we were able to check in at 6:00 am. The room is clean, with a tiny balcony, AC, and each bed had light above it and a small storage space to put your mobile or book. Would have been great if there was a mirror in the room as everytime I needed a mirror I had to occupy one of the 3 bathrooms in the floor. WiFi was good, slow at times but generally OK. There's no elevator, so if you have luggage, get prepared to carry them up.
The hostel is very central with a walking distance to Rossio station if you're doing daytrips and also right close to Tram 28. We walked to all attractions, Santa Justa elevator, the historic center, the port, shops, restaurants, everything. Ask at the hostel about the free walking tour.
The staff was really the highlight of our stay. All of them are super friendly and try to do their best to help and make you feel comfortable and happily give advice on Lisbon. We had a complaint regarding the room and they quickly changed it. They also speak very good English which helped a lot.
The breakfast was nice and there's a fully equipped kitchen if you want to prepare meals.
I'd highly recommend this hostel for the nice ppl working there and would definitely stay again if I visit Lisbon a second time.
