Beautiful place to relax, but lacking atmosphere

This is a beautiful hotel with well-kept grounds, attractive buildings and a great pool. We began a 2-week tour of Italy here and it was a good place to chill out and read a book.
Our room was huge, with an extra bed upstairs for our 10-year-old son. Pleasant seating area outside in the garden.
But after one day lying by the pool we all began to feel it was lacking something. Although busy at night there weren't many people around in the daytime despite it being peak holiday season. A few guests were on the beach, with its odd sunbed policy that is well documented on here. Very few kids.
The private beach is pleasant enough but nowhere near as nice as many of the others on the island. So on Day 3 we ventured further away and discovered some spectacular sandy coast with idyllic turquoise water, especially at Chia.
We had booked half-board so ate dinner at the hotel every night, but the food was disappointing in a country so famous for its cuisine. Four courses, including a choice of pasta so our son was very happy, but mains were uninspiring and meagre, and we often left hungry until we started loading up at the salad bar. The lunch buffet looked better but we didn't try it as we usually went out. Breakfast was pretty good.
Restaurant service varied hugely depending on who we got - sometimes quick and friendly, other times we seemed to be ignored or forgotten about.
They had some tasty local craft beers which were a great find, but ran out after 2 days. The swim-up pool bar is lovely but only open for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
We were among only a handful of British guests at the time and felt somewhat out of place - the mostly Italian clientele seemed to be far better catered for and made to feel more welcome. This wasn't a language issue as most of the staff spoke good English. We just felt nobody made much effort to make us feel at home.
Evening entertainment was largely for Italians so we normally went back to the room to sit outside.
There are some great places to eat in nearby Pula, including a wonderful ice cream shop.
The hotel is a good base for a visit to Southern Sardinia, as long as you hire a car, but lacks the atmosphere, food and service that would make it a great destination in itself.

Wonderful hotel and friendly staff

Great location and facilities. The hotel garden is pristinely kept and you will be well looked after. We booked half board, which gives you the option between lunch and dinner, to be chosen on a day to day basis. The evening menu changes every day and offers decent Italian food. I found the wines over-priced: 15 minutes away, in the village of Pula, you'll find most of the hotel wines in the local supermarket for ¼ of the price... Something to keep in mind if you like to taste Sardinia's exciting wines!!

PS: Yes, there is a fitness room but it's very limited. I suggest bringing goggles and enjoying a swim off the hotel's private beach.

PPS: It's worth getting up early one morning while you're there to catch the sunrise from the beach before enjoying your cappuccino!

Beautiful surroundings and very tranquil

Located in beautiful and well maintained gardens. Rooms kept so clean and our room was very quiet although bathroom very small especially as our room could have accommodated 4 people. Pool area immaculate with lifeguard in attendance, pools unusual design with plenty of cushioned sun loungers. Pools surrounded by trees, shrubs and plants. Private area on beach with direct access from hotel gardens and pools leading to a gorgeous white sand beach with free chairs and umbrellas but loungers were chargeable. All staff very friendly (including domestic and maintenance staff who always said "bonjourno"). Restaurant was a little disorganised, particularly on first day with no-one to show you where your allocated table was. Took long time for a Maitre D to appear to deal with new guests. Also lack of waiting staff at breakfast to order tea or coffee. Cooked breakfast very poor with under cooked scrambled egg, and wafer thin pale bacon. Food in restaurant sometimes disappointing, some meals cold and on one occasion fish was served almost raw. Not enough vegetables served with main courses. No ice cream available for desert! Isn't Italy meant to be famous for ice cream?

Spring, Summer or Fall is always perfect at the Baia di Nora...

The Baia di Nora is simply the most wonderful hotel. It's perfect for couples, families or travelling alone. The staff are all so very welcoming, professional & charming, I have been visiting the BDN for the last 9 years, at least twice a year and it always feels like home. The location is perfect, gardens are exquisite, super swimming pool & jacquzzi and private beach, the refurbished rooms are chic & stylish. Food is delicious, very Sardinian and something for everyone's palette! Excellent choice of local wines, always a bonus! There is also a fabulous boutique in the basement, a definite attraction for the ladies! Highly recommend for a relaxing holiday.

A very relaxing holiday week

The hotel is located in a beautiful, very well kept garden, with three pools, one of it is a jacuzzi, also very well looked after. The hotelgarden is right next to a lovely beach. We had a big room with a gallery, ideal for the three of us.
The breakfast buffet has a big choice. We had two dinners in the hotel. One of it was very nice, the other one was o.k.
All the employees are very findly and helpful.
We would recommend a car, as Pula is a half hours walk away and to visit the beautiful beaches nearby.
We enjoyed our relaxing holidayweek a lot.
