What Baikunth looses for being a tard outdated and needing maintainence,it more than makes up by its location in the traffic jammed roads of Manali and its staff who are ever willing to help.
The property is compact( just 12 rooms), the rooms are basic but clean and cosy and the location puts one in walking distance to the mall or old manali( where most of the eating places are).
The manager, Raj, desererves special attention to be very connected and helpful.
No stone is left unturned to make each guest feel personally important.we had bonfires in the evening and meals in the garden on request.
An extension is planned for next year.

1. Journey to Gurgaon to Manali (The Baikunth Magnolia)
Onward Route - Gurgaon - Chandigarh(Day 1) - Bilaspur - Mandi - Kullu - Manali (Day 2)
Total time -
Day 1 - Gurgaon (Dep - 0700 h) - Chandigarh - 6 hours including 1 hour halt for breakfast
Day 2 - Chandigarh (Dep - 1000 h) - Manali - 11 hours ( 1 hour halt lunch). delay due to traffic jam - 2 hrs at Kullu + Manali.
Total time - 17 hours (day 1 + Day 2)
Route -
Day 1 - Gurgaon - Chandigarh - 4/5
Day 2 - Chandigarh -Manali - 3/5 (road quality - 4.5/5, Scenery - 4/5, traffic - 2.5/ 5 )
The towns of Kullu and Manali are the major bottleneck and the traffic within Manali is treacherous and a complete mood spoiler. Advise - try to reach the city in the early hours or late night (after 2230 hrs) in case you want to avoid being stranded for hours within the city.
Also try to minimize commute within Manali and for this reason in case you want to spend time in the city it would be advisable to find a place within it. Incase you want visit place around Manali then stick to resorts that are outside the city.
2. Location (4.5/5)
The property is ideally located in the Manali for a within city stay. It is difficult to find a better location in the entire town of Manali.
It is 500 mts from Hadimba Temple, 1 km from Manu Temple, 300 mts from Old Manali, around 1 km from the Mall. The only challenge is that since it lies within Manali - getting into and out of the property can be a major headache. The resort has its own parking and that is a huge blessing.
The property has a beautiful lawn with a view of the mountains.
On entering the resort you are overcome with a sense of peace and tranquility.
3. Resort - (4.5/5)
The resort is housed in Irish Cottage. It has 10 rooms - 4 on the ground floor and 6 on the first floor. The Irish cottage is well maintained and preserved. The wooden structure provides a colonial feel to the property.
The resort has a wide lawn in front with an hammock - ideally suited for a lazy morning.
A part of the property is under construction to provide approx 20 more rooms though personally I believe that it might crowd the entire property.
The resort has a very calm, serene, tranquil atmosphere -perfect for meditation, reflection and contemplation.
In addition to the rooms there is a nice sitout on the first floor where one can spend time playing carroms, cards, scrabble or any other board game one choses.
4. Rooms (4/5)
As mentioned above there are 10 rooms in across 2 floors.
The rooms 2/3 and 8/9 have a beautiful balcony overlooking the lawn and afford the best view of the mountains.
Rooms 4 and 10 are more closed without a view, while 1 and 5 have a nice balcony with slight view.
The rooms and bathrooms are well kept, clean, spacious and tastefully done up. (We personally are not into Television on a holiday so believe that it tarnishes the colonial feel)
The furnitures are wooden and comfortable and add to the experience.
It would be difficult to find a more comfortable lodgings.
One can easily add a spare mattress and yet not feel cramped for space.
The bed were well made, marked by clean and fresh sheets.
The bathroom had functional geysers, running water and were clean. The toilet is WC.
5. Food - (4.5/5)
Had breakfast as part of package which had fruits, cereals, eggs to order, toast, tea/coffee, 2 more dishes.
The food was very delicious, well cooked with adequate variety. It came very close to being home cooked. The tea served begs special mention. The cuisine was predominantly Indian
6. Staff - (5/5)
The staff was exceptionally courteous, helpful and welcoming. They were always eager to help. Mr Raj Kandara who was the estate manager was extremely helpful and supportive. The entire staff was very cooperative, gentle and prompt. They setup a bonfire and barbeque at a very short notice though it was a trifle expensive.
7. Value for Money - (3.5/5)
The resort, staff and rooms are luxurious. The resort is slightly expensive when it comes to the food (or so we felt - this may be a Manali wide issue too ). Additionally there is construction going on to expand capacity which can at times be a little disturbing.
The resort is very highly recommend stay in Manali - it is well located, clean, luxurious and well staffed.

It's a beautiful 10 room hotel which was earlier an old house of an Irish family . Very well managed by the Baikunth group who have other properties in Kasauli and tents in sangla. Superbly managed , the chef makes excellent Chinese and continental food . It's conveniently located close to every attraction in manali . The manager Raj and the staff are courteous and helpful.

Planned a trip to Chandrataal lake from Chandigarh with an option to stay for 2 nights in Manali as we were suppose to do a same day road trip to chandrataal from manali. Hence, Choosing hotel in manali was not a top priority (as we have chandrataal on mind) but was completely awestruck when we reached at the hotel. Manager Mr. Raj called up in the morning to enquire my journey from Chandigarh and asked my preferences for lunch. Such is the level of hospitality. Hats off.
This is a 10-11 room property beautifully and tastefully built very near to the major tourist attraction of Manali (mall road and old manali) yet very peaceful. The rooms were very clean along with the restaurant and amazing sitting area in the lawn(had an English breakfast there). Superb set up
Food was delicious and special mention to their chef Mr. Basant. We were suppose to leave at around 5 am from hotel to chandrataal and was surprised to see our breakfast and lunch packed and placed in our taxi at 4.30 AM (they much have waken up at 3.30 am for this). Never ever seen such loving and caring attitude from anyone. Won my heart!!
Other staff Biru and Pawan were always smiling and very helpful. Kudos to the owners for having such a wonderful staff and property.
I must say a must say a very good yet less talked about property in Manali. one should definitely plan a trip here if visiting Manali (normally packed as no of rooms are less)
Thumbs Up!!
