It was a mix between a high end resort and a motel 6. There were certain things that this hotel had that stood up with the top resorts like room furnishings, amenities, room service, valet service and amazing location. On the other hand the staff did not know much about an event that their resort was a part of and the signage for it was 20 feet from the front desk. The staff overall was nice and helpful but it did not match the level the resort seemed to be shooting for. Also housekeeping was extremely loud and disrespectful of DND signs on the doors. Speaking at the top of there lungs and just generally not being considerate of guests in their rooms. I have operated and been a part of many resorts and Balboa Bay Resort has all of the makings to be a phenomenal resort but they need to pay attention to some of the details.

Gorgeous remodel. The decor is so fresh and the rooms have beautiful decor, curtains, and a modern feel. Go for a large room with courtyard view if you can. The room is specious and the bathroom is big and very nice. The Fresh amenities are the best! This place is walking distance to some hot spots and a short uber to all the fun. It is very nice for couples and families. Clean and excellent service.

Saree the pastry chef and Rachel the executive chef are amazing. They each strive to provide an amazing customer experience with a memorable experience. If you want a classic socal then visit this gem.

From the time I booked, to the pick up at the airport, to driving around the semi circle to the front entrance, to checking in, to walking into a glorious suite... everything and everyone on staff were all so pleasant and easy to work with..what a pleasure!
Our suite was facing the courtyard pool area which was being remodeled at the time we were there. This courtyard was grandiose and very picturesque and you could not see your neighbors. We had a long balcony that accessed the living room and the bedroom. The suite was large and beautifully decorated and had a surprise half bath just off the entry. The bathroom and dressing room were well designed. We are returning in a few months to see how the pool area looks...even roughed up and getting new tile, it looked beautiful.
The resort is well planned and did have a great onsight dining room, The Watermark which served B, L, and D as well as room service.
This was a well run, and well managed property. We did not encounter one surly person that worked there.

The resort is very beautiful. Our room felt like a peaceful oasis; the colors were soothing, the furnishings were upscale and the bed... oh so comfy! We ate at one of the restaurants and had an excellent ocean view, with delicious food. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this resort.
