High Light of our two week tour

My wife and I were enjoying a two week tour with Trafalgar of the Irish country side and our “be our guest dinner” was scheduled for the Glenealy Farm of Catherine Byrne-Fulvio. During the two week tour we had had the oppurnity to eat at a number of fine Irish restaurants and pub throughout Ireland. This was our next to last night on the bus, we were heading home the next morning, and we were looking forward to a quiet dinner. Catherine Byrne-Fulvio was there upon our arrival to greet each guest and give a brief history of the home. Prior to dinner being served she inquired if anyone had allegers to anything on the menu. My wife is lactose intolerable and has had a problem with the cream the Irish use in their meals. No problem, Catherine made a special meal just for her and even a special desert. Cannot complain about the service and the meal was outstanding for both of us. This was the highlight of our two week tour. We did not spend our final night in the hotel but traveler elsewhere. This is about the restaurant and not the hotel but did answer the questions to insure this review will be posted.

I stayed here in February 2017. Apologies for late review. We arrived at 3pm. We waited in the hall for assistance. We were shown into the reception room while we waited for other guests to book in. The fireplace had the remains of ash and cinders from a previous fire, very disappointed when a simple fire log and a few lumps of coal would have made a wonderful welcome. And may have gone someway in making up for the shabbiness of everything else in the room! And please dont give me the excuse of 'an 1850's farmhouse. The room needs a decent cleaning, beginning with removing the withered flowers in the vase, cleaning the formica topped coffee table and a good hoovering. We were served tea and four slices of cake - one slice each. We waited 30 minutes for the single cup of coffee. One side plate with four slices of cake, we eat the cake from our hands as there were no additional plates on offer. Basic, modern, worn looking stainless steel teapot! A little bit of inexpensive china would have gone a long way. The bedrooms were akin to a cheap B&B in rural Ireland during the 70s/80s. The evening meal was very basic. Two small slices of quiche on a wooden board with three small bowls of relishes and bread - to share between two people!!! The soup was delicious!! (the only saving grace). The only main course available was a breast portion of chicken, once cooked was stuffed with cold cream cheese??? All in all the dinner was akin to a mid week meal I would do for my family at home. the bedroom was drab, as was the ensuite. Cheap pictures hung from bare screws on the wall. The bedroom was cold, I didn't dare venture into the shower over the bath. Again, please don't give me the 1850s excuse, I live in a house that is over a 120 years old, its a very well lived in family home and would score 5 stars next to Ballyknocken!!! save your money and go somewhere worthwhile! Oh BTW I've had far better breakfast in rural B&B for much less cost!!!
Food, food anď more food.

We had a lovely night in Balkyknocken. The room was nice and had a classic charm.
We first enjoyed a picnic which we took with us to the Botanic gardens. There was enough food for 4 people id say! We especially loved the soup-so tasty!!
We the returned to the accommodation to be welcomed with coffee and a brownie.
After a walk around their lovely grounds and a bit of relaxation, we went downstairs where everyone was gathering it the living room for brandy. We then were met by the chef who welcomed us and went over our meal for the evening. We were then seated in the dining room and ate, ate, ate!
Everything was delish and we would happily go back.
If you want or like to eat, this is the place to stay!!!
Our quintessential Irish experience at Ballyknocken House, Farm & Cookery School.......

My husband and I visited Ballyknocken Farm at the very end of our 2 week stay in Ireland and Scotland. For us, it encapsulated everything we'd grown to love about Ireland. We enjoyed the cookery school lesson, the lunch we were served at Ballyknocken House and the various activities we had the chance to observe on the farm. Catherine is a natural hostess....very warm, inviting and genuine. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful trip.
