What People are saying

Spa break.

Biult over and around a Roman baths, it is fed from hot springs so the water is a constant 53 degs. You can see the excavations of the Roman bathhouse, as the spa is built over and around them. A wonderful experience.100mls from benidorm.

A short Spa break

We used the hotel León for a short weekend break at the Balneario de Archen. The hotel was quite basic with only buffet service available for breakfast and evening meal,
there was another restaurant on site for the evenings, opening at 2100.
The rooms in the hotel are basic but OK for a short stay. The Spa it´self offers a relaxing time in the pools and many treatments are available at extra cost.
Parking is available on site but not at the hotel.

Very friendly staff on check in/out and throughout the whole complex.. The Casino bar is very quaint, by the river with huge trees all around... We were there for two nights and had our evening meal in the agua restaurant, it was lovely on both evenings, service a little slow though... The service not great in bar Azul (late bar) either... The pool and spa areas are spectacular, the water is hot and soft...Beautiful spot surrounded by mountains ...... Pool bar staff very friendly and very efficient..... We will go back and very soon too.....

Wonderful break

We have recently returned from a 2 night break with 2 friends at the Hotel Leon, in the Balneario de Archena. Before booking I compared around 7 or 8 web sites - both Spanish and English and made the reservation through www.muchoviaje.com which saved around 20 euros per room per night.
We booked the mas x menos package which included half board and unlimited entry to the piscina termalium, balnea termalium and spa circuit at 198 Euros per double room for 2 nights. On arrival at the hotel, we were informed that the hotel's buffet restaurant was closed, but that we could take our breakfast and dinner at the 4 star Termas Hotel. We were a little worried about the quality of the meals as there have been poor ratings from other guests, but the first night the food was very good and the buffet breakfast also good (although they could have done with another hot drinks dispenser) On the second night, the food was not quite so good as the portions were a little on the small size, but still much better than the reviews had us expect, although we do perhaps agree with the comments that the advertised price of 24 euros for the 3 course meal was a little high. The Balneario was amazing and we could use all of the facilities from 11a.m until 10 p.m. each day - including our day of departure. We also had an excellent back massage in the Spa which was a great price of 10 euros for 10 minutes. The 3 star Hotel Leon was just as you would expect a Spanish 3 star hotel to be - very clean reasonable sized rooms with a good bathroom, the only thing lacking was a hairdryer. My request for 2 extra pillows from reception was promptly carried out. All of the staff in the Hotel Leon and in the Hotel Termas were very helpful and we have already recommended the Balneario to several friends and can't wait for our second visit.

Hotel indifferent - but go for the Spa!

We booked a two night's spa and hotel deal at the hotel Leon in mid September. The hotel rooms are reminiscent of an Ibis or Holiday Inn Express. Nothing to write home about!

The reception staff – as has has been noted by others – were very helpful.

The smell which greets you in reception is the sulphur from the treatment rooms which run in catacombs underneath the three hotels and the church. You don't of course discover this until you descend to have your own treatments.

The spa complex is in two parts – the treatment area with its steam rooms, individual treatment rooms and pools is entirely underground. Apparently this part of the baths predates Roman times.

A short walk away are the hot thermal baths – 4 or 5 of them at least. These are in a modern complex and there is also an attached wellness centre for which you have to pay an additional fee.

Our deal included five mud and waterbase treatments – all of them excellent and spread over two days. The treatment operation is large and sometimes felt a bit mechanical – though this could be our lack of Spanish. Sometimes it was just as well that you didn't know what was going to happen next!. In all the treatments were excellent. The thermal pools were also a very high standard of maintenance and cleanliness.

Our only criticism was the food at the Leon Hotel: after the first night of dinner we complained and said that we would like to cut our visit short. The manager the next morning arranged for us to take our meals at the adjoining hotel which, though a vast improvement, was not really up to 4 star hotel standards. Acceptable, yes. The breakfast was good.

If you can get a good deal then this is an exceptional place to visit. It was not expensive by UK standards and the overall experience was memorable. We shall go again – but make sure we stay in one of the other hotels
