This one of the first resorts in Manali. A heritage property, slightly old styled and not refurbished. However the hotel staff are very courteous, they guide you really well for local sightseeing. They are also very flexible when it comes to bookings. The food here is amazing. The best tawa rotis in Manali. They have an open air restaurant as well, which offers a view of the snow capped mountains. They have play area in the resort too. The resort overlooks lush green alpine forests and snow capped mountains making it an ideal place for a summer break.
It's beautiful but with a few sore points

Smooth check-in
Lacks the basics;
Breakfast buffet is very limited. You order for most of the items and the kitchen is vary of serving seconds. The waiter in charge behaved as if doing us a favor.
Housekeeping/ room service is very slow. You are supposed to leave the keys at the reception if need the rooms to be cleaned. First morning, it was cleaned even though we didn't leave the keys or informed housekeeping. The second morning it was expected to be cleaned but wasn't.
There's a fireplace in cottages; we expected fire-wood to be provided but were told that there's an extra charge which was exorbitant (Rs. 500 for a few logs).
Other than these few hiccups, Banon is beautiful. Surrounded by lush greenery, you can spend hours admiring the beauty around you.
Rooms in the cottage are nice and comfortable with beds providing excellent sleep quality. You wake up to birds chirping and sunlight filtering in through the massive windows provided.
Location is perfect. Right in the middle of old/ new city.
Top-end option for Manali

Note that the map location of this hotel is not correct according to the Tripadvisor map (although the identified address is right).
The hotel is slightly out of town but close to the nature sanctuary and on the way to 'Old Manali'. Walking into town isn't a problem in daylight but take care at night as the local drivers don't give pedestrians much room.
The rooms are good and well equipped and have forest views. There's also a nice quiet garden to wander into.
Staff all seem a little informal and slow to serve.
A wonderful stay!

We arrived off the Delhi-Manali bus (14 hours) at 9 am and were able to check in immediately. The room was a generous size and the balcony was very large. We had a great view of the far off mountains and some beautiful trees. The bed smelled a bit musty, but it was in the middle of monsoon, so to be expected. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Our only complaint is that both times we asked the staff to order us a taxi, we thought the taxi was on its way when 10-15 minutes later they asked us if we wanted a taxi (and then proceeded to call for one)! Amenities: no a/c but a fan and a heater; hot water for some part of the day; kettle and tea/coffee supplies, TV. Location, near Old Manali, was excellent. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Comfortable hotel located in between new and old manali

the rooms are basic, comfortable and clean. the surroundings are all green and covered with pine trees. you are located in between old manali and new manali. the vegetation in and around the hotel is really nice with cottage roses and pine trees all around it makes you feel relaxed all the time. the staff is courteous and are helpful in giving advice on the trips that u can take in around manali.
one suggestion though - for the rooms on the 1st floor the balconies do not provide much privacy from the other room balconies as there is no partition in between. it will be good if the hotel can put up some partition so that each room will have privacy in the balconies.
