Clean and relatively cheap and very near Paddington

The Belvedere is what you'd expect from a relatively cheap hotel in London - no frills, a listed building so no lifts and old-fashioned windows (and no air-con) but we found it very clean and accessible. Staffed 24/7. The English breakfast certainly passed muster and was served by very jolly and helpful staff. 3-5 minutes walk to Paddington tube/railway station and a couple of decent pubs and several eateries just as close or closer.

Budget hotel, no lift, so my trek all the way up to the 4th floor was hard work at my age. Ask for a lower floor unless you are into exercising. My single room (30) was a small to reasonable size for a single room, my en suit shower room was small but not too bad, however the mixer tap shower was either red hot or freezing cold and had a mind of it's own, not good at all.
The english breakfast was basic but good. I paid £144 for 2 nights so not too bad a price.
Central location with basic facilities

The hotel is about 300 metres from Paddington station, making it very convenient to travel around. Lots of eateries and stores around this area as well.
Basic facilities with a tiny-size room. Ok staff. They also provide breakfast too.
Good for a busy traveller who needs to go to the station real quick.
Juist about OK if you are out a lot...

Good points first - very convenient for Paddington Station; room spotlessly clean; polite staff. However, a hotel this is not: it is a bed and breakfast at the very best. There is no bar, no proper lounge and no dining room worthy of the name. A clue is that the receptionist was wearing a hoodie and jeans and not a uniform. Although the bedroom was spotlessly clean, the rest of the place was in desperate need of a renovation. When I went up to my bedroom I wasn't entirely sure that I wouldn't turn round and run! The bed was very firm and bouncy and the single glazing with the noise outside resulted in not a very restful night's sleep. The ensuite was a plastic pod in the corner of the bedroom consisting of toilet, shower and washbasin. Breakfast was included in the price but I forwent it and dined in the Aberdeen Steak House just up the street. The breakfast room I was told was "in the basement" so I assumed there was no dining room either. For a single male for one night, it was bearable - other than that, no way! For readers from abroad, this is not typical of English accommodation but I guess you get what you pay for. Worth paying a bit more if you can.

As I searched for B&B in London, I ended up finding The Belvedere. If you are not looking for luxury, this is a great sollution; placed in a quiet street and neighborhood, and onlu 3 minutes walk from Paddington Station. really good breakfast and nice employees.
