What People are saying
Mixed Bag

It's hard to review Beqa Lagoon because of the extremes in the experience we had. Other than Storm, the new dive manager, the people were extremely friendly and helpful. The shark dive experience is a "bucket list" experience. The bure we stayed in had been updated and was very luxurious. The food was delicious. That said, we had a few major issues that impacted our vacation. So, would I recommend Beqa Lagoon? If you dive, then a max of 4 nights and plan on 2 days of shark diving. And please don't leave it up to the resort to book you for the dives. Sign up for the shark dives prior to arrival.
So what is the problem? First, the condition of the boats are unsafe. They were hand bailing our boat in between shark dives after they drove it closer to a small island to get it in more shallow waters. The floors are slippery and there is quite a walk from the back platform to a railing to hold onto. I believe they might fix these in the next few months or try to.
Second, the attitude of the resort's new dive manager and his almost exclusive focus on the shark dives and profit instead of customer experience. Storm lied when it was convenient. He did it to justify not having diving available to us. He then lied by stating that we wouldn't have been able to shark dive the next day in any case because we needed to do a "check dive" first. Such crap - no one needed this but it sounded good to him at the moment. And the final insult - not providing the promised credit at the end of the stay. I could list a few more lies, but I hope you get the idea. Before the lies, he started by our conversation by blaming the lack of availability to dive on us for not reserving a spot on the "world renowed" shark dive boat for the first day. We obviously should have known better. I would think someone would have asked the guests with a prepaid dive package in advance if we wanted to book it, especially given the fact that no other dive option is available on the shark diving days (Mon, Wed, and Fri). This was a common theme with others we met. So we said we would do a reef dive instead. But that was the catch - there weren't any other boats available so even though you prepay for diving, you cannot reef dive on shark dive days even though they gladly take the money in advance for a non-shark dive package (shark dive is an upgrade option). One other group in particular did not want any shark dives. If it was left to Storm to work out with the customers, they would have missed out on 2 of their 4 days of diving because the resort did not have a boat available for reef dives. Fortunately, Filo and another customer-focused employee stepped in and Storm finally found a small boat to rent for them to go out for reef dives. When they left the resort, they were still short a dive and were not reimbursed for it. I hope Storm either adjusts his focus to customers and the dive masters (I saw no interaction between Storm and them) or leaves. And please, if you are going to lie, please make the lies good enough to show some level of respect for my intelligence.
The shark dive that is offered is like no other I have found and is unforgettable. We did the shark dive 3 days since we were there for a week. We saw at least 3 tigers every dive and as many as 7. We also saw lemon, bull, nurse, and reef sharks. The dive masters worked well together and we felt safe. They have created a dive site with a half wall in front of the divers, the dive customers, then a row of dive masters to watch 270 degrees around, and a mound at the back to protect the rear of the group. We were able to watch the sharks and thousands of fish as they ate in front of us and occasionally swam over or above us. It was phenomenal.
Will I go back? No. Would I recommend it? For a 4 day max yes with advance booking for the shark dive. But there are so many other places to stay in Fiji. I would definitely go elsewhere to experience the colorful corals and wonderful people of Fiji. We stayed on Taveuni at Nakia Resort and dove with Taveuni Ocean Sports: they both provided 5 star service and went above and beyond to make sure everyone had the best experience possible. Go elsewhere for the rainbow reef. Go to Beqa Resort for an adrenaline rush.
Absolute paradise!

As others have stated, the people are the absolute best. Nicer than nice, kinder than kind, they will go above and beyond for you during your stay. They remember your name, and shout "Bula" every time they pass by you, or stop and have a short conversation before going on to their many chores.
The food was fabulous and varied throughout our week-long stay. There were no repeats for lunch or dinner, so always something new and tasty!
Although this is a fabulous diving resort, we are not divers. It did not matter, as snorkeling gave us an abundance of sea life to ooh and ahh about. Plenty of activities to keep us busy, including a kayak trip through the mangroves, hiking up a mountain to a beautiful waterfall, visits to the villages, snorkel trips, firewalkers show, etc.
The spa staff are wonderful, activities staff, maintenance staff - just everyone was like family, and we were so very sad to leave.
We'll be talking about Beqa Lagoon for a long time to come, and really hope to return!
Vinaka!

Where to start... there is just too many great things so I will hit on all the major points!
First off, the resort staff are absolutely over the moon kind, and helpful. Upon arrival they welcomed us with necklaces and a Fijian song. All of our luggage was delivered to our rooms and a thorough welcoming/info speech was given...
Bar/Restaurant/: Rupeni and his bar staff were entertaining and always making a point to see how my day of diving and activities went. The drinks and food were delicious! Absolutely LOVED our last night, traditional Fijian food! Definitely gives you a taste of Fijian culture! The chefs were great!
Entertainment: Fire dancers, local village choirs, fire walkers.. fun, exciting and a wonderful time after a day of diving!
Dive Staff: AWESOME! Storm and his crew made a week of diving relaxing! They were very organized, helpful and EXTREMELY hardworking. the main dive boats are just far enough you have to take a panga to and from... they do this everyday loading people and gear! The greatest of all were the shark dives! Tigers, bulls, white tips, reef sharks, schools of fish, out of this world!!! All I can say is I hope to make it back sooner than later! Thank you Storm, Papa, Tsumasi, and the guys in the dive shop for making it an unforgettable experience!
-Margo from Florida!

Here's the thing. I just spent five minutes trying to best capture what a wonderful experience my wife and I had staying at Beqa (Bang-ga) for our honeymoon in the title of this review. It does not begin to do the experience justice.
I have a lot to say about our stay, from the incredible food prepared by their new head chef, the comfortable accommodations, the drinks concocted by Zac at the bar, to the beautiful environment we found ourselves in. It was an experience I have not been able to stop telling family and friends about. All the folks we met were so incredibly friendly and inviting.
I highly recommend doing the couples massage close to sunset. It's an experience. Plus, the massage is wonderful. One of the most relaxing I've had, and being a former competitive swimmer I've had quite a few in the past.
My wife and I also did the mangrove excursion with snorkeling afterwards. Sunia (Su for short) was so much fun and a fantastic guide. The mangroves were incerdible. It felt like something out of a movie.
The water is fantastic. There is a reef with so many fish and even the occasional octopus (I was lucky enough to see one) just in front of the resort.
Wayne, Filo, and all of the staff have done an outstanding job making Beqa Lagoon Resort a place both of us will definitely stay at again.
Feels Like Home

I have stayed at the resort many times, and have brought groups with me for the diving.
While there have been some negatives, but they have been very few and swiftly dealt with. These negatives are far outweighed by the many positives experienced during each stay.
Most outstanding are the staff - your name is remembered on the first day, and you are welcomed like family. Everyone is incredibly accommodating and attentive, without being intrusive.
The food is fantastic, ordered off the menu in the morning for the rest of the day. You are able to order as much as you like portion wise, and you most certainly won't be going hungry. The food is varied and very tasty, and on my last visit was happy to find that more traditional food was being offered.
The rooms are dated, but are spacious, clean and tidy, aircon works. The beds are divinely comfortable, and I believe accommodations are currently in the process of refurbishment. I have stayed in each type of room and can recommend them all equally, although the beachfront and two bedroom units have the best sunset views!
The spa is a must! You do receive a complimentary foot massage during your stay, but I definitely recommend treating yourself to a pamper session. I get the hot stone massage each visit at and it's absolutely blissful! Filo has trained her team well and they all do a stellar job.
As mentioned before, I bring my groups for the diving. I have dived the other shark dives in the area, and without a doubt this is the best one. The dive boats are older and could do with a spruce up, but are comfortable and spacious. The dive team are fantastic. You feel completely safe and protected during the shark dives, they are very well organised and are great to watch. We all come for the sharks, especially the tigers. Yes it's advertised as tigers on nearly all dives, and while this is mostly true we must remember that they are wild animals and don't perform or appear on command. I have over 50 dives at The Cathedral, and there have been only three in which tigers weren't present.
The dive shop is advertised as a PADI 5 Star Resort, which can be confusing. This rating is not to do with the building or facility, rather with the dive experiences offered to it's guests/divers. In this case, it definitely lives up to that rating.
There is sometimes confusion with bills at checkout, so my advice is to keep a check on it mid way through, and leave yourself plenty of time on your leaving day to make sure it's finalised.
There are plenty of activities to do outside of the water, with a board in the dining area with tours to choose from. My friend and I climbed the large mountain on the island during one visit, at the top we were surrounded by clouds! A fantastic experience!
Finally, I'll mention the staff again, because they truly make the resort. While there are the main stars like Filo, Joseph, Rupeni, Zac, Va, Tommy and Selai in the bar/restaurant, Sai, Buva and Vasiti in the office, Missi, Koli, Tumasi, Navi in the dive team, there are just as many others, and more that quietly do their thing to ensure you have a wonderful and memorable stay.
Vinaka guys, see you next time!
