Happiness comes from within and once we booked and paid the prices we did not look back and just enjoyed ourselves. We had A lodges at the side of the rive and loved the lay-out. Sixty square meters of lodge and warm water. Great not to have TV and Wi-Fi only at the reception. We loved the food and the trips and the staff was fantastic. Georgio is Mr. Surinam in hospitality aside from being a great bartender but we found all the staff very kind. Where does one find a beer and rum coke at $1,50?
We got totally rained out soaking wet one night on a riverboat tour and even enjoyed that. Great place to unwind and bound with family.

Rooms quaint but comfortable. No fridge nor TV. Catering for mostly outdoor activities. Room price affordable and so too are their very tasty meals. But all outdoor activities have a moderately high fee.

Visited Bergendal numerous occation. Very peaceful suroundings,tasty food and very very friendly staff. The condos are clean and tastefully furnished. Enjoyed every minute and the whole experience. A must visit when going to Suriname.

A Caribbean feel amidst a breathtaking tropical rainforest on the banks of the Suriname River. Unique accommodations that tastefully blend in with the natural surroundings of the jungle, amazing river views and best of all, a lovely overwater bar/lounge deck where you can kickback and enjoy a spectacular sunset. And most of the times, you get to spot wild animals that you don’t get to encounter in your urban lifestyle. Gives you the feeling of living in a really unexplored jungle! True rainforest romance! The best part of the stay here is they have an Adventure activities camp, through which you can indulge in a lot of fun activities like Kayaking, Ziplining thorugh rainforests, trekking , etc.
LOCATION: Spectacular location, right on the Suriname River, less than an hour��s drive away from the Paramaribo airport of a bit more from the city
DINE + DRINK: In my opinion, the highlight of the property is the Pirhana bar(appropriately named!) with its overwater deck. The exquisite restaurant located next to it is also a great place to unwind or savour fine local cuisine. Chef(s) were more than willing to customize our dishes. So go for it!
ROOM: Stayedin C-22 lodge, so this review is based on that; Do ask for these kind of lodges, as they offer great view of the river while also giving you a feeling of living and sleeping on treetops amidst a wild jungle! VIEW: Fabulous views of the River; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Romantic Stand in shower with views of the forest; TOILETRIES:Local random toiletries, so bring your own if you desire fancy stuff.
FACILITIES: No gym. Sweet pool with lovely river views, but not maintained very well. Massage cabanas that opeate only during weekends.
SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and like a royalty.
HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works only in the lobby and the restaurant. No TV or Wifi in the room, so you can really unplug yourself from the wild world out there and soak in really unadulterated wilderness!

Booked riverfront cottages through Expedia, but resort canceled the reservation and said they had no riverfront cottages available, even though they were stilI showing as available on Expedia. I ended up booking Forest View rooms through Expedia and paid in full in advance; upon arrival they insisted I needed to pay them. Luckily I had a printout showing it was paid in full, and since it was the middle of the night, the reception staff agreed to get it sorted out in the morning. The “Forest View” from the room included a broken down pick-up truck in an embankment as well as some sort of partially framed abandoned building. The cottage itself was spacious (it was the largest category) but only had AC in the bedroom, making the living area unusable. With some work the cottages could be quite nice, but at this point they are just passable. I had a knee injury and was worried about the distances from the cottages to the lodge/pool/restaurant and was assured it wouldn't be a problem as they had a shuttle bus to bring guests wherever they wanted to go within the resort, however in reality the only shuttle bus left the resort for hours at a time to bring employees home and pick up other employees, etc., so most of the time the bus was not available. Even worse, the phone in our cottage stopped functioning the second day there, and they could not repair it and had no spare phones to swap out, so for the rest of the stay we had no way to call for the shuttle (and no way to communicate with the children in a cottage a decent walk away). Tried to book activities ahead of time, but the people who answered my emails seemed to have no idea what activities and tours were actually offered and what was no longer offered; i.e. I tried to arrange a fishing trip and was told that was not possible, but later found out from the activities desk that it was easy to arrange (but we'd already made other plans). The website showed a fabulous menu with great vegetarian options, steaks, etc., but upon arrival we found out that menu ‘wasn’t ready yet’ and vegetarian options were limited to a mixed salad (not a viable choice since the water is not potable) or a grilled cheese sandwich. Eventually, after speaking with numerous staff, they agreed to make a tofu and vegetable stir-fry, which was quite tasty. Options for non-vegetarians were also quite limited as most days they were out of at least half of the items. Service was incredibly slow; even when we were the only ones in the restaurant, a burger took a minimum of 55 minutes! This was especially strange since the restaurant was staffed with a huge number of people! The pool is small but very nice, although it seemed to be stocked with 3 towels per day and never replenished. On the plus side, the setting is lovely, with gorgeous river views from the common areas, and the bartenders were friendly and talented, and drink prices were very reasonable. It’s really too bad that they don’t bring this property up to it’s potential, as it really could be a great resort with better management and better trained employees.
