Very Nice Visit

We stayed here for just 2 nights, but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We visited at the end of October, and had the half board option. The room had 2 double beds, balcony, bathroom, mini bar, plenty of wardrobe space and was spotlessly clean. The food here was superb - the best of all the Best Hotels we have stayed in. The entertainment that we saw during our stay was only for the children, as it was UK half term, so there was a lot of ‘little screaming darlings’. Our only complaint was that the private car park was a steep 10€ a night. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel.
Fabulous week ! Perfect October 1/2 term holiday.

So after reading mixed reviews, we headed off to Costa Tropical and Best Alcazar with an open mind. We have had a fabulous holiday!. I am an ex holiday rep and Travel Agency manager with 30 years experience, so I feel I can give an objective and honest review..
We stayed on a self catering basis so I cant comment on the All Inclusive facilities. However I would say that the cafe area was always kept clean and tidy, there was never any empty plates or glasses left on tables. If you did want to buy a drink at the bar the prices where very reasonable. The whole complex is very clean ( we didnt see a single creepy crawly all week!) and laid out beautifully, it does however have a lot of fairly step ramps and is in a very hilly location. We hired a car after flying into Granada and I would highly recommend having a car to make the best of the area and have easy accessability into the resorts of La Herradura and Almunecar. The drive from Granada down to the coast is stunning and takes a little over an hour.
Staff in the hotel where all brilliant from reception, bar staff, lady in the shop to the maids and the maintenance man. Please disregard any prior reviews that say otherwise. My only little gripe would be the over use of the whistle by the life guard! You cant play with a ball, lilo, inflatable, dive, jump etc etc..all a tad unnecessary when you are the only people in the pool! The hotel is fairly busy at the weekend with local visitors, creating a fun and busy atmosphere. The hotel is much quieter in the week and I loved the fact that no one saves sunbeds at silly o'clock. You can get a bed any time of the day which was great.
Probably my favorite thing about this hotel is the simply stunning views. We had a high floor and looked over the Marina to the left and La Herradura to the right. The apartment was huge with a fabulous roof top sun terrace, really comfortable beds and a large smart kitchen with a full sized fridge freezer and grill/microwave. An area for improvement would be to add a kettle, a toaster, chopping board and decent bread knife to the self catering units.
In summary, well done to the management and staff at Best Alcazar, you have clearly listened too and improved in your delivery and service. Your hotel is a superb base to discover this beautiful area of Spain. The climate is fabulous in October, the apartments are situated beautifully on the hill side. My daughters aged 12 and 9 loved it , we will be back.
For other visitors from the UK my advice is this:- Dont expect the same 4 star standards you may find in more British resorts. This is a Spanish hotel in a Spanish resort and its different ( in a good way). You wont get a full English, Karaoke Bar or tacky T shirt shop anywhere . You will find lovey genuine people, fabulous restaurants and a stunning sunset every evening. Go with an open mind and you will love it.
Make sure you take enough Euros and a credit card as you cant change sterling anywhere.
Great value with stunning views

We have just enjoyed a 6 night break in this hotel and really could not fault anything. Food varied every day with a huge choice of hot and cold dishes and loads of variety. We were on a 'Wine and Water' deal and tested all 3 house wines which were very decent. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and refurbished everyday to a high standard and the sea view from our balcony was brilliant.
Average Hotel

Stayed in the apartment (self catering) side of this Hotel' The entrance is through a car park which is a bit off-putting. The rooms were big and clean with limited facilities for self catering (no bowls or decent cups). Room cleaned very well every day with fresh towels etc
The pool area was nice and big with 3 large pools. Easy to get a sunbed. There was a lot of chlorine in the pools, with visability very bad. But at least they are clean I guess.
Mostly Spanish people staying here, which was a nice change. They all seemed pleasant and weren't rowdy. Most guests are on all inclusive and so the bar/snack bar can be very busy at peak times.
There is a bowling alley on-site with a bar in it and arcade games for kids. That is a good facility. There is a small gym with very basic equipment (prob better to run around the local hills if you want to exercise while on your holidays).
Taxis to La Herradura cost about €7. That is good value but they can be difficult to get. The walk into town (downhill) via an easy to find shorcut is about 15 mins long. Its doable on the way back (uphill) but not after dark or with small kids as the hill is steep.
There are plenty of good restaurants in La Herradura. The mid priced ones were actually nicer than ther expensive ones that are on the beach.
The Marina (opposite direction to La Herradura) is a lovely place. Very nice restaurants there and a lovely setting beside all the nice boats. Again you could walk there in 15 mins but prob best to get a taxi back.
The beaches close by are small pebble beaches and not sand. I don't like sand and the pebbles are small so comfortable enough to walk on.
Very disappointing

This is a 4* hotel but I don't know why. The building, rooms, pools and surroundings were very good but the meals and entertainment were a disaster. You had to be in the dining room as soon as it opened to get a full choice as not everything was replenished. Even then the meals were luke warm and many of us made use of the 2 microwaves. The "entertainment" reminded me of holiday camps of the 60s. It suited the children down to the ground but adults weren't catered for at all. Music, dancing etc were advertised daily to start at 10pm but we stayed up till 11.45 and they were still acting the fool. I spoke to lots of other people and they said they went to their rooms to have a drink to get away from the noise. There are no other bars in the area so you are quite insolated in that respect. We won't be going back.
