A very pleasant stay
Bonnie871on 10/05/2017 16:06We spent three nights here in April when we were in the area for a wedding. The common areas are lovely and the staff extremely nice and helpful. They were very helpful with places to eat and a hair salon appointment. The room was a bit dated but very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was adequate and nicely presented in a nice setting. The hotel is conveniently located to tour the area but a car is essential. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the area.
Decent
Chocochuon 26/04/2017 22:10It has its own secured parking. The reception is a bit hip and funky.
The rooms were average though.
It's fairly near the church.
Something to note is that there is a gay bar just beside the hotel which can be quite noisy.
Friendly and ideally situated
Paul Gon 22/10/2016 21:07Despite our room being a little tired the bed was comfy and the shower warm. We only stopped for a night but it was nice to have only a short 2 minute walk to the cathedral square, where there are lots of nice places to eat. Quimper is well worth a visit.
Nice but noisy
Mendo2CAon 13/10/2016 05:09We stayed three nights. The hotel common areas are very nice. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was good. There is onsite parking. Our room was nice and spacious. The bathroom was nice.
The main problem was the noise from a bar down the street. Other rooms are apparently more quiet but the bar noise interfered with our sleep on the first and last night of our stay.
Unless you are a heavy sleeper ask for a room as far from the bar as possible or go somewhere else.
Hotel needs to address noise issues
ClassicPaton 09/10/2016 11:33We stayed in Quimper for two nights early September 2016- Sunday and Monday night. As usual we had checked out the hotel reviews before booking. This hotel claims 4 star status. The first sight of the hotel was not inspiring- it is in a slightly scruffy area and the exterior views are nothing like as glamorous as on the website photos. The parking area is secure in the sense that there is a barrier preventing access, but not secure in so far as anyone can walk in from the street without being hindered or observed. The reception area is very pleasantly decorated, even chic, but could best be described as compact. The breakfast area is directly beside the reception desk, in a corner alcove of the lobby- not very appealing. We decided not to take breakfast in the hotel, preferring to eat in one of the many cafes nearby- more atmospheric and a lot cheaper. A small escalator led to the upper floors. We had booked the comfort double room, and had requested a quiet room. We were however given a room overlooking the street. The room was basic, clean and adequately equipped.
The hotel amenities were perfectly OK- if it had been classed as a 2 or 3 star establishment. However the mere fact of claiming 4 star status on their website sets higher expectations. I did notice that the name plate outside the building only claimed 3 star status- closer to reality. For example, paper cups for the in-room coffee service is not 4-star. Neither is the fact that on both days the room service staff supplied only the bare amount to make 2 cups of tea or coffee. The WiFi was problematic, weak signal and an irritating log-on procedure, but that's not the end of the world.
However Sunday evening was nearly the end of the world. Both nights of our stay were quite warm. There was no air conditioning in the room, and I could not see any fresh air vent anywhere. So we had to try to sleep with the windows open. However there is a bar on the corner of the street very close to the hotel, so well patronised that the customers overspilled into the street. The noise with the windows open was unbelievable. With the windows closed, the room was unbearably stuffy and warm. The noise eventually faded at around 3am. Being a Sunday night, we assumed this was just joie de vivre. However the following night, Monday was just the same. Again the noise went on until 2:30 am or so. It completely ruined our stay.
On checking out Tuesday morning we told the gentleman at reception of our experience. He told us that this has been a problem ever since he had started in this hotel some 10 years ago. I asked why our request for a quiet room had been ignored- he said that "everyone asks for a quiet room". The hotel's gesture for our problems was to take out the overnight parking charge. This is just not adequate.
In summary this hotel has great potential. It is well located in a charming city, close to tourist attractions and restaurants. But it does not deliver what it promises. The hotel would be better off claiming a more realistic star rating, so that expectations will be at a more realistic level. When you expect 2 stars, and get 3 star service, you are delighted. But not the other way round. Second, get rid of the paper cups. Third, provide air conditioning and/or proper room ventilation. And above all, do something with your city authorities to control the anti-social behaviour in your street. This is a residential street, and this problem is not an occasional one at weekends only, or times of festivals- and how the other residents put up with these noise levels is beyond my comprehension.
