Beautiful view of....a roof and water damage on the walls
Charlene Son 15/11/2017 15:51The only reason we booked this hotel was because we were looking for a place close to the airport that had a late check-in time. We only landed around 8:30pm and got to the hotel around 9:15pm. We quickly found that there wasn't any good parking in the hotel, you have to pray that you find an open parking spot in the streets surrounding the hotel and then lug all your luggage through the streets.
Inside, the reception area has a sort of a minimalist modern decor and it leads one to feel that the whole hotel will have this feel....but more about that later. Checking in, I found the person to not be very friendly - they do the necessary to check you in and that is about it. Upstairs we found a very basic room, which would have been okay for the evening but with visible water damage on the walls and two tiny falt square pillows on the bed to use, it was VERY basic. The bathroom, although a decent size was very old looking and very dark (even with the light on). The bath had visible black mold on the partitioning door - I really wasn't pleased about that. Especially as a foreigner paying around R1800 a night (for two people with no breakfast included) it is a very steep price, especially when we compared this to the other properties we stayed at on the island. Anyway, that aside - the room was a good size, had tea / coffee making facilities, a little fridge and TV. There was also a cupboard in the room should people stay longer.
Downstairs the hotel area had a lovely pool area, bar and restaurant - we didn't make use of any of these - but did get a welcome drink voucher for the bar (it's a Tequila Sunrise cocktail). The hotel is across the street from the Le Barachois lookout point and it's a nice walk with good views.
Overall, we weren't that impressed with our room and maybe we just didn't try enough of the hotel to feel differently. But considering the pricetag and condition of our room, I don't think it deserves to get a 3 rating.

TheHotelGuru10on 27/10/2017 07:04Hotels in Reunion lack decent decor & sophistication. Probably due to the islands remote location in the middle of the Indian Ocean which makes access to modern furniture difficult.
So generally only the larger brands tend to have access to the budget to bring in furniture that is more modern / better quality.
The rooms were ok but the whole hotel lacked luxury. It seemed they were redecorating with new furniture coming in, so maybe it's better now.
Nice pool with adjacent breakfast room.
We stayed at this hotel on our 1st night as our flight arrived late & this hotel is a 10 minute drive from the airport. I would not spend more than a day or 2 in St Denis as the best beaches are at the top resorts on the west & south of the island.
You walk 3 blocks to the town of St Denis & shop which is nice. This is a French Island but don't expect Paris type shopping. This is island shopping with a few nice stores.
The islanders don't speak much English & communicating is difficult. The island is best suited to adventure travellers as hiking etc is great.
And you must make sure you find a hotel with a GOOD & SAFE SWIMMING BEACH as not all beaches are safe for swimming.
You must rent a car. Taxis are scarce in peak season & the villages are remote with basic bus service really only catering to 8 am & 5 pm workers mostly, with a few buses in between during the day. Depending on where you are on the island you could wait for a bus for quite a long time.
Do not miss flying into the Crater by Helicopter ! It is breathtaking & was the highlight of my stay, if not my life.

Cristian Gon 09/10/2017 20:45The hotel has a very good location nearby seaside and the old town center. Unfortunately room we had was at lower standards. Breakfast was good and the view from the terrace over the ocean is quite refreshing.

carineb1234on 07/09/2017 23:10This hotel used to be a Best Western, but now isn't anymore. The location is terrific for checking out central Saint Denis; it's right across the street from the promenade with the cannons pointing out at sea and on the night we were there a delightful night market was right there on the public square!
The lobby is a surreal ultra-modern sort of design (but with tacky plastic side tables of gnomes holding plates) that makes it seem quite posh, but the rooms are worn an dated. When we first were checked in we opened the door and it actually was an occupied room! Our actual room was basic, the towels thin and the beds were very low to the ground. It looks like they were put together in the 1980s and little had changed since then. I accidentally left my medicine case, which contained my malaria prophylaxis and contacted the hotel, but they never returned my message.
It's a decent deal for the location, but the Tulip Inn near the airport is much nicer for the same price.
Nice hotel
Manuela Son 29/08/2017 14:00On the time I was there, the entry and reception was not nice because of the changement they were doing. The place is nice, the room too. Restaurant meal good, nice and quiet terrasse for meal and afterworks. I enjoy the room with big space, and the door who separate the bedroom and the bathroom is really helpfull to avoid the noise. The team was really friendly.
