Pretty hotel

Great location and worth staying but it was expensive compared to other hotels in Spain where we travel around a lot.
The room was done in a medieval spanish style but really comfortable and aircon worked perfectly
A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL IN A GREAT LOCATION.

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely hotel just inside the old city wall. Our room was great and the gardens beautiful, and the reception staff so helpful. We asked for someone to help us with our bags, and reception immediately sent someone to help us.
I would recommend this hotel but be aware you need to ask Reception for someone to help you with your bags. Having spent many years in travel, I felt this hotel could be so much better in regard to food and beverage, and they need a concierge.
Nice garden area for drinks, but check your bill

This hotel/restaurant is just down from the Alfonso VI Gate, and we called in there to have a drink after a 3-hour walk around the city on its “Green Route”.
The garden area is delightful, and very much away from the local hustle and bustle. My only criticism is that I’m pretty sure we were overcharged for our beers – we were charged the rate for Large beers, whereas we only had standard size drinks. I suspect that the overcharging was deliberate, but didn’t notice it until later.
So, by all means enjoy the scenery, but check the bill carefully. Or maybe order large beers in the first place ….
Not entirely satisfying

The hotel is in a great location - with easy access to the old city of Toledo and the hotel itself is a really beautiful restored building. Having said that, our experience was not 100% satisfactory. Our taxi dropped us off at the front "gate" which is actually the entry to the restaurant. We wandered around for some time with no clear signs to help and no one was particularly helpful in directing us to reception. When we finally found reception, no one offered to help with bags, so we had to haul our bags up stairs and around. Also, nobody helps with bags when you are leaving. Whilst staying at the hotel we wanted to have a drink at the bar and were told (very efficiently) to go outside. We got the distinct impression that they are a little bit tired of tourists. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and our room was spacious but perhaps the room (and definitely the bathroom) could do with a bit of attention.
Bad management!

Our positive first impression was “destroyed” by our two days experience at Hacienda del Cardenal. The place is just beautiful, but its looks like the lack of employees and lack of good management are not leaving the guests with a positive experience...long time to wait for replacements during breakfast, to tell the guest that the non-fat bread has finished and he would not replace for the day (for two consecutive days), coffee machine was broken and we had to wait the technical person to fix it...the only person at the reception leaving the place to fix other things and we had to wait for more than 10 minutes to check-out...
At the bar, looks like its normal to wait the only one waiter availability to get our order (and it was not a normal waiting time)...so we’ve tried the restaurant...not good!!
I do not recommend this hotel!
