    Pleasantly surprised

    brenda w on 20/11/2017 16:42

Just returned from a brilliant overnight stay with a deal booked through travelzoo costing £99..for this we got dinner bed & breakfast & 2 glasses of prosecco .The room had been updated..there is other traditional rooms but this room was lovely. I liked the little touch of a cafetière & teapot along with the tea supplies. The meal in the restaurant was very good apart from our drinks getting forgotten twice & our sauce not getting returned after we asked if it could be warmed up...the food was so nice & the staff friendly we will let them off. The breakfast was excellent too.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel ...Salisbury is a lovely place to visit and this hotel made it extra special....we will be returning.
Tip: if your staying on a Sunday night ..hotel has parking(£15) but carpark behind hotel is only £1.70.for 3 hrs..& is free after 4pm..
You then can purchase a 3hr ticket for the next day.

    Stunning

We were traveling to Lyme Regis and decided to breakup the drive. Salisbury was the town we decided on. What a pleasant surprise. How lucky were we that The Red Lion had available rooms. We had the choice of a modern room or a traditional room. When staying in a 13th century inn we enthusiastically chose the traditional room. The rooms were stunningly beautiful, comfortable and clean. The breakfast and the breakfast room was amazing. What a great way to start our vacation.

    Murder and Mistery dinner

    This was an amazing evening.
I can't remember when was the last time I laughed so much, in spite of resolving murder case. Most of the people turned up in incredible costumes and played their characters very well. The food was really, really good - the best Pumpkin soup I've ever had and staff very attentive. The actors interacted with us and at the end awarded the best played character and costume.
    Definitely recommend it.

    full of history

Just stopped here one night , everything was fine for us apart from being woken very early by the beer barrels being moved around in the courtyard under our room !

We were on a Travelzoo offer which included bed and breakfast, dinner and glass of prosseco each, good value for under £100. The receptionist and all staff we met were friendly and helpful.
We stayed in room 43 which is located in a separate part of the hotel accessed across the courtyard. The room was fine although dated but clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were of a good quality.
Dinner was in the Vine restaurant which is quirky with beams and interesting artefacts . The food was fine but light on veg .The service was slow but we weren't in a hurry so no problem . Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day along with very good coffee.
The location of this hotel is perfect to explore this interesting city .
Thank you for a good stay .

    Really enjoyed my stay

I have been going to the Red Lion for many years and the recent management upgrade has had a terrific impact. Clean, professional and a joy to be at. The room was great and had a view of the cathedral. Knowing that the masons who built the cathedral stayed in the same place made me feel very connected to the history of Salisbury. It is a great place to stay and it a perfect locatioin.
