The land that time forgot!

The website pictures give the impression of a modern hotel. However on arrival, even from the outside things were very dated and tired. If you have a water feature that no longer works - take it down , don’t leave it festering and rusting. Inside the carpets had tape repairs in most areas we saw. I checked with the girl on reception that we had a deluxe room as booked....... her response worried me -“yes all rooms have been updated and they all have en suites now” - this is not deluxe - this is an expected basic in this day and age. The room was meant to be a deluxe triple room - heaven help those in a lower grade room. (Still not sure why it was rated as deluxe.) We had a view onto a skip full of stuff. It was a normal room with an extra single bed squeezed in...... so the room now had 3 single beds in it. The bed covers had holes in them. (There was still smoking paraphernalia from a previous guest I assume). The room was tired - they had obviously tired to very cheaply modernize it a bit at some point in time....... but failed miserably. Why spend money on having some sort of mobile phone you can take out with you for the rooms.? This should have been spent on new mattresses and better quality fittings. The square shower head in the ceiling was poorly fitted- and not practical. I found that the room rate I had been charged although expensive for the area I think (the hotel across the road for the same room type was £40 a night less and included breakfast) - this didn’t even include breakfast. They even charge full breakfast rates for the two kids ( most hotels don’t) - an expensive bowl of cereal. The bar area for meals was very small and also shabby. As it was a Saturday night and they obviously had a function on there were not really any comfortable areas to sit. So we went out to get something. There was no lift to get upstairs. Overall this was way over priced and shabby but definitely not chic!
Fab room.

Stayed here for one night -Saturday.
Checked in by very friendly staff.
We had a room on the ground floor- which must be one of the recently upgraded rooms . It was lovely- new carpet, nice furniture, well decorated. Comfortable bed.
Bathroom had lovely fluffy towels, great rain shower and nice heated towel rail.
We eat in the bar, and had two American burgers which were huge and well cooked- very nice meal as was breakfast the following morning in the main dining room.
So why only three stars??
We didn’t sleep well!
We were woken up twice by the room above us by the ceilings creaking? Then the radiator decided to start making a noise ( maybe requires bleeding?)
While this was going on I had to get up and unplug the travel buddy as the light given from it was like a Belisha beacon ! ( nice touch tho from the hotel to provide guests with this free guide)
It was a real shame as the room was so nice.
My only other comment would be that you are provided with plastic glasses which one sadly creaked and spilt wine on the bed sheet.
To sum up I feel the hotel was trying really hard , friendly staff , good food.
If we came back I’d like a room on the top floor.

Arrived really late but excepting we could not get a meal both booking in and a drink both hot and cold were. No problem.room was large, comfortable and with all expected facilities. The package we had booked was room only but breakfast and all other meals were available if required. Room was at back of hotel and very quiet with a good view. We had a full day with family and only returned to sleep. Another quiet comfortable night
Great Stay

I was organiser of a party of about 70 people who stayed for 2 nights in October. Our stay was great the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Evening meals were included in our deal which were excellent quality, we had a choice of about 3 items per course with food that appealed to everyone, well presented and tasty. The second night we had private dinning with a disco provided by the hotel which was great fun. My bedroom was amazing and included a very large bed as well as a great Jacuzzi. I didn't have any complaints from any of the people who were in our party.
The reception staff were amazing and when I realised I had left my ring in the bathroom and rang them, they quickly found it for me and sent it back to me really quickly which I am very thankful for. It is nice friendly hotel that copes well with big and small parties.
Weekend Break

Stayed here for 2 nights using a Buy a Gift voucher. The reception was great, very efficient and we were in our room very fast. There are 2 floors but no lift, so if you cannot manage stairs request for a ground floor room. The room was lovely, spacious, immaculately clean with a 6ft king bed, and a large TV. Tea and coffee making tray with delicious cookies. The bathroom was a good size, with an over head waterfall shower, and loads of hot water, and large fluffy towels.
We ate in the hotel restaurant on Friday evening, as it was part of our deal. Although the hotel was very busy, at 8.30 we found ourselves eating alone, seemingly everyone else had eaten and gone to their dances. The service was very good, and we were served starters fast. The starters were very good, but our mains were not so good.
The grounds around the hotel are lovely, I am sure wedding parties during the summer here would be lovely.
Rockingham Castle entrance is just 5 mins walk away.
There are 2 pubs within a 10 min stroll, J D Weatherspoon, and a Hungry Horse, although the footpaths are not very good, and I would not recommend walking in the evening, as there are hardly any street lights, and the road is very busy.
Corby town centre is a 10 min drive away, so the hotel is rather cut off.
I think this hotel lends itself to business meetings and parties rather than romantic weekend breaks.
We enjoyed our stay, the staff were lovely, very welcoming and friendly.
