First time here, the hotel is very old and could do with a bit of an update but the staff are very friendly and the breakfast was superb. The room we had was nice, great view of the sea etc, shame about the dirty windows but hay ho. Came back late after a concert so decided to watch a bit of tv in bed but forgot my binoculars, small tv a long way from the bed but it’s not that important but if you like your tv in bed like me then take a telescope 😁. Overall I would stay here again.
Didn’t agree with the £5 to park my car and the car park is very tight for larger 4 x 4s.
Bar prices are very high, unless you have a good supply of money drink elsewhere!
Got to get real

Great building but it needs some attention .loved the history of the place and they could make so much of it .however the price does not merit what’s on offer .charging £5 to park your car is not on also £10 for breakfast is also going to add expense to an already overpriced .you can get a good breackfast nearby for half the price .good location for all southport has to offer .
NOT COMING BACK

I am here on a week end dancing break, when we arrived the hotel was dark and very very cold in the foyer, we had to wait while the receptionists sorted out our keys and finally got into the room. I will say that I was very, very, very disappointed. I am on my own and my room is small, overlooking an alley, the carpets are filthy, just glad I brought slippers with me. The sash window is broken and cannot be locked. The overhead light on the mirror is broken. the curtains, walls are dirty and the window sill has not seen a damp duster for a long, long time. while sitting on the edge of my bed I noticed that the old victorian radiator under the window was caked in dust and dirt ughhh. I dread to think what could be lurking under my bed. There is a kind of throw at the bottom off the bed which is not that clean looking. However in this surreal world of hotels the bedsheets appear to be clean and the towels nice and white and fluffy. The whole hotel needs upgrading and repainting inside and out. It really does not resemble the photos on their website. The food is ok, nothing to shout home about.Staff are nice tho. All in all, I will not be sorry to leave on Sunday afternoon. Britain is going to the dogs and should look at what Europe can offer in the same price range.
Not as described

My friend and I booked a Groupon deal to go here which was described as a “leisure break”. We were really looking forward to jumping in the jacuzzi, having a girly catch up and even paid extra for afternoon tea. The deal sounded good - £89 each for 2 nights stay in a twin room, dinner on the first night, breakfast both mornings, afternoon tea and spa access. Here’s where it went wrong:
1. Dinner was mediocre. Menu was too fancy for the actual quality. They even served green beans and pretended they were asparagus.
2. The room was boiling. Windows only slightly opened like most hotels and reception told us the heating is either on or off for the whole building. Old school?
3. Breakfast was ok. Hard, cold eggs but everything else was alright and it’s buffet style.
4. Spa access was really disappointing. Jacuzzi was out of use and no signs staying this until we walked up to it. Not even informed by reception. The pool heater was broken too so it was freezing. Sauna was packed as no where else for any one to go other than the steam room which had a severe lack of steam.
5. Afternoon tea was small and not as described. I was told on the phone I couldn’t book a specific time but to arrived between 12 and 5 and it would be a few mins to prepare. Man at the bar told us he would be at least half an hour as he had other orders (he was alone to be fair) but ended up telling us to come back in over an hour in the end. It was small and had items missing from what was described online only to be told “but you have more cake than normal”. Hmmm 3 bite sized pieces isn’t great
6. Old and run down. Needs a massive face lift and lots of areas cornered off as the ceiling was falling down. Not ideal.
Wasn’t quite the weekend we had in mind but we had a good weekend. Staff at reception could be friendlier but were great in the restaurant
the good and the bad!

we have stayed at the royal Clifton many times in the last 12 years or so.just had 3 nights break there........this hotel is a very comfortable hotel..sometimes in the past
the beds have notbeen too soft....our recent stay we had probably the best room and
bathroom ever.lovely bed ...super sea view.it is very handy for everywhere in southport
and the staff are always lovely and helpful..........however on the minus side the set price deal was minus breakfast which is £9 per head(2 people £18) daily.when you walk in they ask you if you want tea or coffee and then take a pot of which ever to your table cold/lukewarm...how long have they been mashed?? 2 days out of 3 it was terrible.....every breakfast the food was lukewarm/cold.hard eggs/cold tomatoes etc.....
its not worth £9!...............
the Osborne end lift malfunctioned most of the time we were there.
the 2 bars seemed short staffed...and now you have to pay £5 a day to park your car.....
all in all poor value......are they trying to catch brittannia inns up?.
maybe it's a premier inn next time.
