Late Check-In? 24-H check in?

rumr2017 on 10/04/2017 07:42

My group was arrived late around 20:00 or 21:00. When I checked in this hotel, the check-in staff did not ask me or my group whether smoking or not. The hotel gave me two room. Not mention the two room was smoking room verbally. At first, I did not notice "HE" gave me TWO SMOKing room without asking whether I or my group was smoking or not, so we took the room [we did not know the room we took was a smoking room in the moment] and ate our dinner in a hurry and got some sleep because next morning we wake up early at 04:45 to attend a morning tour at the other side of the city. After we finished my morning tour and went back to hotel to get some sleep before we checked out, I heard the clean-up lady in the hotel said something about smoking in the corridor in the morning, so I asked the clean-up lady "Is this floor smoking floor?" She said "Right! The rooms on this floor is smoking area". Wow!
Why did this "SO-CALLED 5 STARS HOTEL" GET A 5-STAR TITLE? I thought that "Service" is one of the Main Review. Asking a foreign customer is a MUST to UNDERSTAND what he/she needed when he / she checked in in your hotel. The hotel staff can speak english language fluently that earned a 5-star. This is Japanese courtesy. I don't think so.
I DO NOT COME BACK even I cancel my another reservation on this so-called how many star hotel on this year after I came back Hong Kong.
Highly recommend to local citizen, Not suitable for Chinese/Asian people.

Looking for a Fuji experience

Lianne H on 05/04/2017 09:39

Having visited Hakone this time last year and not seen even a glimpse of Fuji-San because of the awful weather we decided to go south(ish) this year and see a different volcano. Wow, we were not disappointed! All the rooms facing Sakurajima have balconies and you get a perfect view of it and the sparkling blue water in front. There are boats moored and quite regular ferries but these add to the interesting view. The hotel itself is just a little bit tired with a bathrooms needing a bit of a facelift ( the electric loo didn't work!!) and the room was a bit smaller than similarly priced hotels. Food and the restaurant a bit disappointing too for the price, especially the dinner. Each time we went they were clearing up around us and on our last morning we were not even shown to a table, though there was plenty of arigatogozeimas from the staff . The coffee is supreme however! Right opposite is a combini and a fast food place called Hotto Motto, and a second combini round the corner where you can get decent food they will heat up for you. We also had a Pizza delivered to the room ( our Japanese speaking son ordered it on the internet). We had the same taxi driver twice who was delighted to tell our son all about the local attractions. So all in all a worthwhile place to stay.

Brilliant view of Sakurajima but sadly the hot springs weren't Japanese style baths

The view of Sakurajima from our room was stunning. Without this, I'd have only scored the hotel as average.
Whilst the hotel is listed as having "open-air hot springs", unfortunately this wasn't Japanese baths as expected, but a rather odd hot pool with dingy changing rooms. We chose not to use it.
Breakfast was good.
Whilst the hotel is a bit of a trek out of Kagoshima, the views more than make up for this. There are direct buses from Kagoshima Chuo Station to the ferry port next door (Kamoike Ko) and the hotel provided instructions on these. You need bus stop 15 at the east side of Kagoshima Chuo Station, and then it's bus 11.
Although it was 25deg when we arrived, the swimming pool wasn't open, as it only opens for a couple of months in the summer.
It didn't seem possible to cool the room without opening the balcony door.

Warm reception, great housekeeping and gorgeous breakfast

tshoncku on 29/11/2016 03:29

We stay on 24-27th Nov, 2016. The reception staffs were always with warm smiles and willing to help. The room is clean and comfortable. Most importantly, the harbor view suite provided amazing sunrise and sunset everyday. The Japanese style breakfast buffet is another surprise, really delicious with considerate service. Best place to stay at Kagoshima.

Worst service I have ever experienced at a hotel.

papasmurfinjapan on 09/11/2016 05:51

I have stayed at countless hotels throughout the world and Japan in particularly, and this hotel has the distinction of being the worst place I have ever stayed at.

For what it's worth, the room I stayed in was not bad. The bed was comfortable, amenities on the budget end of the scale but acceptable and the view was okay.

What disappointed me was the attitude of the staff - I didn't see a smile on any of their faces the whole time I was there. The front desk were ignorant of my stay plan, and despite showing them the plan I printed out, they still demanded I pay extra charges before I could leave (after a complaint to the general manager he offered to reimburse me, but that is not the point).

I don't go to hotels to be branded a stingy liar trying to scam them out a few yen. The attitude of their front staff takes towards visitors to the hotel is quite simply unacceptable.
