We visited late Feb 2017 and loved our stay at the cottage. Really private - quaint, but with everything you'd want. 2 bedrooms,
1 full bath. Decently equipped kitchen with washer/dryer.
Arranged to have a delicious meal in the refrigerator when we arrived - highly recommended!
Large private gardens and pond with plenty of hungry ducks (bring bread and they'll love you). Have access to a walking trail(s), but we didn't have time, nor the energy to use them. It was a couple of chill days for us (toured the underground caves nearby - well worth the trip). The drive up to the cottage was superb whenever you were driving along the coast.
We liked it so much we wanted to stay additional days, but couldn't rearrange our remaining schedule to make it work. You're so remote that the night sky is amazing - no light pollution - one night we were there, there was a comet exploding over the Pacific and threw out a massive ball of light that was equivalent to turning on a light switch over the entire horizon for a second. I doubt anybody can count on that happening again this century...
The cottage is perfect for a family or a couple wanting privacy. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Good value for money.

Lovely place in every way. As nice as the photos are, the reality is even nicer. Gorgeous cottage with many luxurious amenities set very privately on a beautiful property. Wonderful views, super-comfortable accommodation, and the surrounding area is marvelous too. We loved our stay here and hope to be back!

What can I say, this was one of the best places we have stayed on our holidays, the cottage had everthing and much more than we needed, beautiful views, lovely wildlife, delicious fresh free range eggs for our breakfast. Definately planning another trip.

Booked Ferrymans after deciding that we wanted to "go past" Underworld Adventures at Charleston as part of our South Island Sojourn. Importantly for us, it was fully self contained as we were travelling with our own food and two kids. On trips such as this, something has to be cut out of our budget. Thats usually meals. By doing the food ourselves, we can afford to book better accommodation like Ferrymans and attend more of those "star NZ attractions".
It was those two outdoor baths that sold me on Ferrymans - as I'm told is a selling point by others and even the owners. After a day in the cold NZ South, nothing beats soaking in a nice hot tub. Conveniently in the middle of nowhere, so those beastly swimming costumes and clothes can be dispensed with.
And when that's over, retire to the cabin where a fully prepared slow combustion stove is awaiting just a match in order to whisk away that cold from every corner of the cottage. Heaps of top quality firewood sitting outside in the dry just to keep things that way.
As the complimentary washing machine and dryer churns away at the domestic duties left over from rolling through previous motel rooms, you can take sumptuous walks around the property. Then, once returning from your attraction, grab the laptop and complimentary WiFi and do all that farcebooking, planning, photo downloading and gawdknowswhatelse we now all like to do when staying at a cottage in the middle of nowhere.
Ferrymans Cottage lived up to all our expectations and is in every way a little bit of independent luxury, complete with views, ducks, chickens and wonderful hosts.
