Fawlty towers without the charm

Rooms were nice enough and spotless However an overpowering chemical smell forced us to vacate in our PJ''s in the middle of the night to sleep in the car. Apparantly that wing had been 'deodorised' the previous night. Poorly trained night staff who didnt want to be there were unable to help. The next day we were offered an alternative room for the second night down a long dark shabby corridor (lights were on a timer we were told so couldnt be switched on). Didnt stay for breakfast -very uninviting dining room and poorly trained, scruffy staff. Came from Australia for a family reunion nearby- wouldnt stay again . Such a shame as the hotel could be terrific.
Could be better

The room itself was quite big but very damp and you can see that on the walls no wi fi said there was no router there why? Said was problem with the phone again why ? Toilet would not flush first time bath was cold no hot water but shower was OK room cold I asked about heating was told it would both on between 5 and 6 o'clock it did not come on overall we thought we was put in the room cause there was no where else I wish they had told us they was fully booked overall was 1 of the worst room we have ever stayed in
Needs a facelift...

Stayed here on a Saturday night to attend a nearby wedding. The lad on reception was friendly enough but looked really scruffy in sloppy jeans and jumper. There is no atmosphere when you walk into the place...need some music..its like walking into a museum. The signage to our room was poor and had to use guess work that it was upstairs. After walking through long drab and shabby corridors our room was in a newer part of the hotel...albeit still very drab and uninspiring. Walking past the emptied and closed down pool and spa area it looked liked the hotel has just been left to go downhill..such a shame.
Our room was clean and quite a fair size for a double. the quilts were so lumpy it looked like the bed hadn't been made...but the linen was all very clean and i actually slept really well...beds were quite comfy! We called down and asked for an ironing board and were told we'd have to get it ourselves as he was too busy...
I've no idea if they served breakfast or not as we weren't advised on check in and didn't see any signs either???
it could be a lovely place, it just needs a face lift and money spending on it...
Alright

My daughter and I stayed here for a couple of night's. I choose this hotel because we stayed here years ago (when it was under different management) it was excellent then.
The car park is fine. The twin bed room was clean but tired looking, in need of decoratation. The duvets were lumpy, need replacing. The bathroom was fine, nice and clean.
Free Wifi in the room was a benefit.
Our room was on the first floor. One of the corridors was not lit at night.
We didn't have breakfast, nearly ten pound a head seemed expensive.
Nice people

We stayed here for a couple of nights after selling our house - the people that run the hotel were lovely as was the service and the food the only thing i would say is the rooms could do with a spruce up.
would defiantely stay here again if we were in the area
