This recently refurbished inn has been tastefully decorated and is situated in a quiet village. It is an ideal base from which to visit Holy Island and explore the Northumberland countryside.
The extremely comfortable bedroom was cleverly designed to maximise the space. The very friendly young staff were eager to please and nothing was too much trouble.
Food was good without being exceptional. Would certainly stay here again.

there where six of us having a couple of days around the borders.
We where looking for somewhere to eat and this place was recommended.
What a revelation the food was excellent the service superb ,the staff are very friendly and eager to help.
Will definitely be going back ,it was booked by one of our party Gary Smith which is worth doing to guarantee a table

Just returned from one night away at the Black Bull - Lowick, which reopened in March after a refurbishment. It's now a clean, light, stylish, contemporary haven. From the second we arrived to a very warm welcome, we felt really well looked after by the team here - every single person we met was delightful.
We started with an early drink - excellent Gin menu - before being shown to our room (Ingram) which was spotless and oh so comfortable. Dinner was excellent: Cauliflower pakora (fresh and tasty) followed by delicious fishcakes for me. Pigeon breast (superb) and Steak (extremely good) for him. Breakfast was equally outstanding. We can't wait to be back.

We'd been staying at Haggerston Castle for a few nights and had found a couple of nice places to eat for evening meals but this place was the best we found. Friendly helpful staff, great service, great choice of food and good prices. The food was amazing and the lamb shanks were particularly incredible. Lovely place, just wish I lived closer.

I visited the Black Bull twice with my husband during a short break to Northumberland. The Black Bull was recommended to us by the owner of the accommodation we stayed in, we were not disappointed. The first night I had steak which was tender and cooked to perfection. My husband had cheese cake for desert and I can honestly say it was the nicest cheese cake I have ever tasted (it looked that good I had to pinch some) The Black Bull is tastefully decorated, the staff are pleasant and there was a good variety of alcoholic drinks on offer. During our break we also visited the tree house restaurant at Alnwick which was very expensive in comparison to the Black Bull, unfortunately the food there was no where near as nice as what we had eaten at the Black Bull. We were so impressed with our first visit that we returned again on the final night of our stay, my husband had fish and chips and I had the curry and both meals were good value for money, we could also not resist leaving without enjoying another slice of cheese cake !
