2nd trip to Brahma Blue

EquineAddicton 23/07/2010 18:33

I returned to BB the first week of May and the place was very empty. Perhaps, this was due to the start of the off season. As mentioned before in an earlier post, I concur that yes, the pool was cloudy and the smaller part wasn't even filled. A bit of a disappointment! However, on the plus side....no more generators and was quiet!

We started out in the penthouse however, due to wind keeping us up at night we asked to be moved downstairs to a quieter location on the ground floor. No problems with this request. I have noticed that the master bdrms do not seem to get as cool as the other rooms in the condos. Therefore, since I hate being hot, I stayed in the smaller of the two rooms which was perfect. The beds are still the best I've slept in and the service impeccable. Speaking of service....Jessie makes the best pina colada on the island!
The rooms were very clean, comfortable and spacious.
Ronal arranged a sailing/snorkeling trip and OMG...it was the best of the best! Don't hesitate to ask him to arrange this trip for you...it was a private sail and reasonably priced. Food was excellent, we snorkeled in places that the party boats don't and had our own private boat with plenty of beer and rum :)
We did the cave tubing which was worth the trip and the money....I recommend it highly specially if you have children. We also went up to the Mayan Ruin the same day which was near Guatemala. It's an all day trip but worth taking. I advise taking the plane to Belize City instead of the boat. It's faster!

The boat service to and from San Pedro was suitable for our needs. This isn't the place to stay if you want to be near the action of nightlife or restaurants. It's only a five minute boat ride and remained on Schedule most of the time we were there. We ate at the restaurant and discovered there are other choices besides Indian food. I had the fish cakes which I recommend. There are also burgers and other American choices as well as the Indian dishes. I didn't think it was over priced for the quality of the food. Way above average compared to other restaurants in San Pedro. My other favorite restaurant is the Sunset Grill to the direct right as you get off the boat at the San Pedro dock.

My advice about staying at this resort is patience! You're on island time, and things take time. But this is true all over Central America you're not in the states anymore. The resort is also located on the lagoon and not ocean front. The views? Well the only time I was in my condo was when I was sleeping so I didn't really care about the view. However, I did like the views of the lagoon when I did look around. This resort is for people who want to get away from it all to relax and de -stress. Yet, be close enough to San Pedro by a short boat ride if one wants to go there.

No TV when we were there which was fine by me. I never watch TV on Vacation. We did have a radio so were able to listen to music. We had phones to the front desk and unlike another review...ours worked.

I like this resort so much that I'm considering buying one of the lower level condos. I will be returning in the near future.

Beautiful Accomodations, Inconvienient Location

They now have power from San Pedro! No TV though (I liked that). We stayed in a condo size suite with a master bedroom/bath, second bath & bedroom, kitchen, dining and living room. I slept on in the second bed room and the hide-a-bed, both were very good. Suite was very clean and appeared almost new. The AC never got very cool, we ran around in our underwear most of the time. We knew the resort was a mile from town, but didn't realize it was a mile across the lagoon. The boat taxi was a big pain, restricting our movements and schedule, and we ended up spending a lot of time waiting on the San Pedro side. The taxi ran from 8 am till 9:30 PM, with fairly large gaps in service during the middle of the day. Forget about night life. The one morning we had an early dive trip it cost $30 US to get the boat early. The staff was as helpful as possible, given the isolated situation. They let us use the resort computers for Emails & internet. There is no phone off island. The pool was cloudy the entire time and I didn't use it. The view from the rooms was rather bleak, with the small island stripped of most vegetation. The Restaurant was better than average, but twice as expensive as those in San Pedro, and with a limited menu, especially if you don't care for Indian food. There is no beach or other activities available at the resort. We only saw a couple of other guests during our week long stay.

DO NOT Stay Here

mmtafton 20/04/2010 21:47

This place was terrible. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and checked out early because it sucked so bad. The rooms were nice and the view amazing, but it ends there. We were the only people staying here. This meant the restaurant and pool bar were closed. There was no one at the front desk until noon. The staff always seemed too busy on their phones, computers, or running their personal errands. It seemed that it was inconvenient to the staff that we were staying here.We had to go to town every day by water taxi ran by the hotel so we could eat or do anything. It did not run on a schedule because we were the ONLY people there, so we had to have an exact time to tell the boat driver when to pick us up. A couple of times local businesses were nice enough to call and ask them to pick us up, but it would still take them 30-45 minutes. If you want to be on a tight schedule with a curfew then this hotel is for you. We left and stayed at Ramon's Village which was awesome.

Is Place is a diamond in the rough!!!

We must start off with saying to bring patience, the hotel is very new and is working out a few bugs... the day we got there the power was hooked up to the grid, something that was very exciting for them....

The Hotel is elegant and very new, we stayed in the Penthouse sweet as well as some friends stayed in the other rooms, The views are amazing, the place is as clean as it comes, transportation to town was arranged within minutes of requesting it. The staff was very helpful and friendly, management was professional, friendly and great to talk with. We left some items in the room and he sent it back to us in Canada with no problems...

The things wrong that we saw..... was the water, they are on a desalinization/cistern system, it was a busy week with 2 weddings and the place ran out of water for an hour or two until some could be hauled from town....

Phones to the front desk did not work...

This place is young and is ironing out the kinks, overall I loved it and recommend it to anyone...

I cannot stress just how stunningly beautiful this place is!!! They did a great job.... oh and the beds are soooo comfy!!!

Great, getting better

I read all the reviews before we booked , and still remained aprehensive about setteling on this resort.. I found it curious that the reviews were either excellent or poor and nothing in between. I also found one reviewer somewhat unfair, if the hotel went to so much trouble finding you alternative accommodations why do you expect additional compensation??? That said, Belize is a third world country and in a stretch can be considered a developing nation.
When we arrived Ronel who runs the front desk greeted us at the dock with a cool towel and rum punch, we were introduced to the staff, and then walked around the property. The grounds were well maintained and so tropical. Jeffrey and Gill took our luggage to our room. As it was our anniversary i had asked for something special and they provided champagne and chocolate in our room. The room was spacious and well appointed.
POWER, is an issue, the local electric company was finishing hooking up the resort to the main electric grid, and power had to be shut off several times as they were making the connections (the work should be completed by now). The generator was fairly innocuous and present no real inconveniences. While in San Pedro, the main town lost electricity three times in the week we were there, I did mention developing country! Ronel explained that the TV and internet came from a Satelite feed and was subject to weather conditions, so we managed to use both sparingly.
We went on trips most everyday and Jeffrey the boat captain always asked when we needed to be picked up and true to his word he was always there. Anthony the general manager was extremely helpful, he booked trips for us, made dinner recommendations and even sent the boat to get us at 2:00AM one night when we stayed out late. We had no idea he was the manager, until Ronel told us. My wife had too much sun exposure the second day and Anthony arranged to have all our meals that day delievered to our room. The entire staff was warm, friendly, and professional and did their level best to provide good service. Blue Lotus restaurant was excellent, however we did not want to dine there everynight, Jessie one of our servers recommended a number of restaurants in town which were all good( Wild mangos, Hidden Treasure, caramba, and sunset Grill). We spent hours exploring around the island in kayaks that were provided free of cost. Master lee, our massage guy, was superb. Come to find out he is a master in chinese medicine, and can fix almost any ailment.
We would lounge by the pool for hours and Izzy would bring us Pina Colodas. No it was not the Ritz Carlton, but we had a great time in the company of some really good people, doing the best job they can. We will be going back to Brahma Blue and have recommended it to our friends.
