We visited for afternoon tea and the surroundings were certainly , or at least had been, grand. unfortunately the tea wasn't. Stale scones and almost inedible cakes, tea from a badly cracked teapot. I could go on but I was just so sorry to see such badly faded grandeur....

Stayed last night at the Adelphi. Rather concerned after reading reviews. Pleasantly surprised.at the friendly welcome we got. Parking was outside and could do with tarmacing as rather muddy due to the wet day. Room was larger than usual and was clean. Bedding was clean. Tired decor that would be improved with some TLC. For instance the bed legs were showing and didn't match. A valance on the bed would have covered them up.
A grand old hotel that could do with some money spending on it but for the price ,£38 for a double room,and the convenient location it was well worth it.

Read so many bad reviews i nearly cancelled my break here. Hotel was dated but i found it appealing, cleanliness and food were fine, as were the staff. Booze prices were very good and you cant beat the position of this hotel, close to all amenities. I would have no hesitation in returning.Well done Adelphi

The plus points of the Adelphi hotel are the location right in the centre of Liverpool, and it is quite inexpensive, struggling to think of any other positves. On the down side it is quite shabby,old carpets in the public areas,old décor, and the hotel has a tired feeling.The bedrooms are even worse, the bathroom is straight from the 1970s.The evening meal was terrible with a dry piece of chicken and frozen roast potatos, though I must say the full English breakfast was very good.All in all would not go back.

We stayed here for 12 – 18 September. The hotel was once the top one in Liverpool and the faded glory is interesting to see. The bedroom was large and clean. Overall, although much of the décor was in reasonable condition, the signs of wear and tear were evident. There was no hot water on two mornings, although this was quickly fixed. Be aware that you will be charged extra for use of Wi-Fi in your room and of the pool.
If you have anything to complain about, from my experience the hotel chain’s HQ (Britannia Hotels Ltd) will ignore it unless you are very persistent indeed, and then you will not get a satisfactory response.
The major problem was pounding bass music on the Saturday night, which was so bad that the furniture was vibrating if touched. At 12.15 a.m. I went to reception, to find it was an event three floors below our bedroom. Having failed to draw the attention of anyone at the desk, I went through the open door at the back, to be confronted by an aggressive staff member, who did not want to talk about the problem, just to get me out of the staff area. Eventually he offered to do something about the noise, but it went on unabated until 12.45, and after all that had happened we slept very badly that night. Having told a manager about this next morning, I wrote to the hotel chain’s HQ, once on their website and twice by recorded delivery letter complaining about had what had happened. Having had no reply, after nearly 6 weeks after my complaint I phoned and was told someone from HQ would contact me and explain the lack of response, but no none did, I phoned again and eventually received a letter from the Adelphi’s manager with an apology for the ‘inconvenience’ the noise caused us but with no suggestion that the hotel should not have allowed this level of disturbance in the first place, and effectively saying that the staff aggression was my fault for going behind the desk when I could not get attention from the front. Talking to other staff when at the hotel, and from the lack of any suggestion in the manager’s letter of this noise being unusual, I suspect noisy functions may be quite frequent. We will not be using the hotel again or any in the group.
