When I was a little girl I imagined every hotel in London would look like this one....with it's large burgundy flag flying high outside and the eloquent doorman eagerly awaiting to take your bags, first impressions are 5 star.
Quintessentially British, and steeped in History this hotel made you feel like you were privy to something very special.
Famously frequented by the beautiful Lily Langtry - it was easy to see this hotel was a very 'royal affair'. We also had the pleasure of being shown room 118 - where Oscar Wilde was arrested (and gave me goose bumps) before being taken to our own suite which was even more spacious and airy.
The room was decorated very traditionally, and had mostly antique dark wooden furniture. If you love modern and contemporary this might not suit you. Interestingly, the lounge area downstairs is bright and much more modern, (and served the best bloody Mary's). I absolutely loved the feel to our room though, and felt it represented exactly what I'd imagine the hotel to be like.
Finally the staff, who were totally on the ball - and greeted you everytime you came into the hotel. One lovely doorman even ran after me with an umbrella as it had started to spot with rain - a true gentleman and very thoughtful. His kindness and consideration just reflects everything this hotel poses to be. I look forward to returning soon.

A weekend in london. Hotel clean with friendly helpful staff. Enjoyed the spa facilities..nice location and nice rooms. Although on a very busy road it wasn't noisy at all. Only downfall is our room had what looked like a small balcony with French doors, but these doors were locked shut

Hadn't booked, just called in whilst passing looking a tad scruffy and amazingly, treated with the utmost of courtesy.
Seriously wonderfully 'old school' and given a traditionally perfect room, far better than I am used to. Very comfortable bar even had Real Ale which was a surprise and dinner just superb.
Had reservations about the bill next morning, but on a value for money basis, was not
that surprised! Next time in London with my wife for a special occasion, will definitely be staying again.

Stayed here with as a couple and found the staff and room were beyond our dreams. Example - we checked in, staff asked if there was anything we would like, David said he'd like a cup of tea and the gentleman on staff responded, "Brilliant!" And took care to seat us with all comforts in their lovely tea room.

Stayed here on the way back to the U.S. Hotel was very nice and situated perfectly just seemed to be a bit small. Then again we had all of our luggage and were ready for home so it may have just been a bit cramped for us. I think the hotel is very beautiful and I would recommend it to couples or anyone looking for a nice stay in London.
