I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the double bed and one twin bed room with a balcony that had a partial view off to the side of the water. For the price I think this place is a great bargain. It's right off the promenade by the water and it's about a 10 minute walk to the docks where the boats for the Great Barrier Reef board. It's only about 5 minute walk to the main part of the city with restaurants, bars, tourist shops and etc. Also, because it's right off the promenade the walks are quite enjoyable and scenic. The front desk is manned 24 hours and each staff member I spoke to was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and well maintained. The only negatives were the wifi - which was not consistent and came in and out (but I think this is a general problem in the area because I had this wifi problem at some of the bigger hotels and also in Sydney, which the hotels recognized were issues concerning the internet provider), and that the laundry shuts down pretty early. Given the laundry is not near any of the rooms, I think it would be nice if they had it operational at least until Midnight. Otherwise, I think this is a great place to stay, especially for the price.

We stayed here for 3 night and found it to be be a lovely hotel. It's about a 10 minute walk from the centre of the Esplanade. We had a good sized room which we found to be very clean and well kept. There was aslo a balcony to dry your clothes or have a beer in the afternoon. Staff were very helpful, we arrived at 8:30am in the morning and while our room wasn't ready (which was understandable because check in is at 2pm) they put our main luggage in the luggage room so we could explore the town. They did managed to check in an hour early as we were dog tired from our long haul flight. We didn't use the pool or have breakfast so can't comment on these.
Uber works well here so we decided to take an Uber to the Airport. Which was less then a 15 minute drive and cost around $13. The airport shuttle is a bit of a rip off at comparison as we took this when we first arrived and it cost $22 for two people.
For its price we found CPH to be great value for money and if we were to visit Cairns again we would happily stay here again!

This is a basic hotel with the bare essentials: daily clean towels; comfortable beds; and reasonably clean rooms. However, this is an out dated hotel that needs a total refurb - it has a feeling of 1970. Also, the breakfast is just poor, boring, lacks quality (I found moudly fruit) and variety. The pool has no parasols - utter madness in the skin cancer capital of the world.

This hotel is the fourth hotel we’ve stayed in on this trip and have to say it’s not as bad but almost as bad as Hong Kong, cockroaches in the room when we first arrived, on the kettle area, the room had 2 beds in the room which actually should have just had one and a nice chest of draws and a bit more wardrobe space. The bathroom was ok but the shower the grout was all dirty and the seal coming away, the water pressure was awful as it dribbled out the shower head. The Wi-fi was intermittent. The breakfasts was below standard and actually we had 1 breakfast and ate out the rest of the time.
I had to ask for the fridge to be turned on as it wasn’t working.
The only saving grace was the comfy bed and the not bad location.

We stayed there almost a week. We always book hotels with wifi, because we depend on it to book our tours. No wifi the hole time we were there, false advertisment, we didn't get the product we payed for. And come on, it does not take a week to fix a missing wifi, either they didn't care, or they used up their qouta, and didn't want to tell us. At least there is free wifi outside on the esplanade. Big building grounds next to the hotel, a lot of noise, starts 6 am. Cockroaches in the room, bad tv signal, no ventilation in bathroom. Only positiv thing is that the room is okay big, and has a balcony. Is on the outskirts of the esplanade, small walk to the downtown.
