Great time to be in Calistoga

This was our sixth time at the Wine Way/Craftsman and true to form was a great value and experience. The breakfasts are incredible, Gillian, Nick and Max perfect hosts and we had the town practically to ourselves. This was the unfortunate part...it seems because of the fires people are staying away from the valley. In reality, now is the time to visit given that it's easy to get into restaurants and wineries, there isn't as much traffic and most importantly, they need your business. Added benefit, the location is ideal for exploring the general area and both properties are within walking distance of the entire town of Calistoga.
Perfect visit while supporting the Napa Valley after the fires

We had a lovely experience at The Wine Way Inn immediately after they reopened in October. We were encouraged to come to show our support for the area to help everyone get back to normal after the time they were closed during the fires.
Max, Gillian, and Nick made us feel like we were at home during our stay. I woke up each morning to the smells of breakfast being prepared in the kitchen, right outside our room. A full breakfast buffet each morning spoiled us during our stay. Fresh coffee, homemade scones, and muffins, egg casseroles, fruit and more surprised us each day.
Wine, tea, and snacks were available in the afternoon and evening as a lovely way to end the day of wine tasting and touring.
Another fun part of this visit was the time we spent meeting the other guests of the inn. Each morning we compared notes on our daily adventures, helping us to plan our days ahead.
Wineries visited: The Caves at Soda Canyon, Fontanella Family Winery, Schramsberg, Bremer Family Wines, and Chateau Montelena
Restaurants visited: Evangeline, Rutherford Grill, Market, Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch, Sam's Social Club, Johnny's for football, and Mustards Grill.
Our first stay in a B&B set a high standard. Calistoga was a wonderful, small wine country town and a perfect place for a home base. We will return to The Wine Way in on a future trip. Thanks Max!!
One Night Stay

Hotel was easy to find, adjacent to the main road but it does mean that there is traffic noise in the rooms - well there was in ours, although not intrusive at night. Car park had space for four/five cars but we arrived early so we got a space. Could not check in until 3.30pm but we knew that and went for a walk round Calistoga. Owner was very friendly and informative and showed us to the room. We had the Calistoga Room (queen bed) which is possibly a former wooden summer house at the back of the property. The room was quite small, not much space around the bed and a bit tight for our suitcases (one large and two small). It was a bit damp and the sliding access doors needed maintenance because when shut and locked, there was a gap of about one inch at the top.The bathroom was small with a shower which was OK, hot water and reasonable flow. There was a medium-sized bath towel, hand towel and face cloth each and Occitaine toiletries. In addition, there was a small area to hang clothes and a small refrigerator. Tea and coffee were available in the lounge, together with complimentary red and white wine and sherry – nice touch. There was no view from the bathroom window and second bedroom window, but we looked onto the garden area where one could sit out - good in the summer, but too cold when we were there. Breakfast was freshly cooked. Ok for our one night stay.
Outstanding Stay - Unbelievable Breakfasts and Perfect Home Base for Visiting Wineries

The Inn is located very near to Calistoga's downtown. During our 3 night stay, our car remained parked and we walked to restaurants and shops in Calistoga, Ubered to some wineries (Rombauer, Frog's Leap, and Mumm) for tastings, and rode bikes to others (Summers, Tedeschi, and Lava Vine). Calistoga Pottery just a couple of doors down from Wine Way Inn had some beautiful pottery for sale and Tank just across the street from the inn offers wine tastings.
At Wine Way Inn, I shared the St. Helena Room with my two grown daughters and we were very comfortable with one queen and one single bed. The room offered all we needed for the brief time we spent there, as our days were packed with pre-planned activities. The back patio and decks are amazing with beautiful landscaping, comfortable furniture, and a fire pit. Bottled water was available at all times, wine placed in the living room each evening for self-service if desired, and coffee ready every morning at 7.
The breakfasts were to die for. After the first morning's offerings of an egg and corn soufflé with fresh herbs, homemade yogurt and granola, fresh fruit, fresh-baked scones, bacon, and pears steeped in something delicious, I looked forward to whatever Max was cooking up for the next two mornings and he didn't disappoint. It was delightful to wake up to the smells wafting upstairs from the kitchen.
And finally, we met some very nice people at the shared breakfast table. It was really fun to visit what each group had done the day before and where they were headed after breakfast.
Favorite stops on this trip were Rombauer Vineyards on Silverado Trail (appointment needed), Sam's Social Club in Calistoga and Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena for dining, and Calistoga Bike Shop with rentals that include tastings at up to 5 wineries. We visited Calistoga just a week after residents and business owners returned after a mandatory evacuation due to wildfires. Our trip was not impacted in any way.
Stayed at the Wine Way this week, on opening day after the fires

The service and Inn were wonderful and all restaurants and wineries that we wanted to see were open. There is no lingering smoke and the weather was great and the air crisp and clean. People were very appreciative that we still visited and we are glad we did.
