What People are saying

Campanile Macon -- old, needs attention

Marsupilami62 on 08/09/2017 21:45

unfortunately, I can not recommend this Hotel. For my taste, the room and also the bathroom were quite dirty. And the breakfast: no real coffee :-(
I would NOT recommend THAT Hotel in F-Macon. I was in other Campanile-Hotels also, normally, they are better.

View from the car park said it all!

We had travelled from the Vendee across France en route to the Alps and chose this as a night stopover. having stopped in Camanile's before and always been provided with a clean and comfortable no frills room, this is what we expected again. All I can say is the place needs a complete overhaul. Even from the outside it looked dirty and run down, and even the walkways up to the rooms on third floor looked as if they may tickle the fancy of most H&S inspectors! I did try to make do but on entering a dismal room that reaked of stale smoke I felt like crying. I am not fussy in the slightest but just require clean and basic accommodation. My husband I think realised I wasn't going to put up and shut up on this occasion, got out his iPad and quickly booked another hotel and then went to reception to cancel the room booking. At least with Campanile's you can cancel the booking up until 18.00hrs. Looking at the reviews the management state that it was being renovated in 2016=well there is no sign yet that that has been done and so not recommended to others.

Dissapointed too

I am not sure how I did end up selecitng this hotel. Maybe I had mistaken it with the Campanile sud, or maybe I did not read the reviews carefully when booking and only trusted my good experience with the Campanile chain from Warsaw.

Good: Free Parking, Working Air conditioning; wifi worked but its speed was not impressive. Bed sheets looked clean.

Bad: Far from city and supermarkets, and suitable for truck drivers. Smell of mold and cigarets from the rooms, crappy doors, dirty and creepy staircases. Unlike many hotels in EU, breakfast was sold seperately. It had one power outlet (for charging cellphones) in the room and one in the bathroom. In short the building need more attention.

DISAPPOINTED

We have stayed at numerous Campiniles over the years and have always been reasonably happy with our stay but I have to say I was very disappointed with this particular one.

The first impression when you arrive is that the hotel buildings are very run down and are in desperate need of painting. The outside walkway to the room was in need of sweeping and then when we got to the room the room was shabby. The radiator was hanging off the wall, The grouting in the bathroom was obviously been re-done recently but the tiles round it had not been cleaned properly. On removing the little cover on the bed I could see a mark underneath it and on inspection found that there was a huge burn the size of a saucer in the actual duvet (not the cover). I have to say though that the actual sheets and duvet cover were crisp and clean.

Plus points are that the room has air con and also tea/coffee making facilitates.

On a more positive note the actual restaurant area was absolutely fine and we had a nice meal. Also the staff were very friendly and helpful. Its just the rest of the hotel that is a total let down.

I would not recommend this hotel and will not return.

Stay away if you can

We had booked at that facility because a) I did not want to drive far after a long overnight flight from Toronto to Geneva, b) It was also close to some sites we intended to revisit - such as the Cluny Abbey and a''Compagnonage'' Museum, and c) due to a number of factors, hotel rooms between Tours and the Eastern border of France were almost non-existent at that time, hence our choice.
Problem No.1. No air conditioning and, after serious probing, up to the manager, we found that the AC had been broken for about a year and not fixed.
Problem No. 2. Black mould all over the (double) shower ceiling. Apparently, no one was aware, although that amount does not grow just in a few days. Management's response? we'll look after it.
Problem No. 3. Although we can attest there were no bugs, the room needed to be seriously cleaned, seriously meaning that the cleaning crew spent less than 10 minutes in each room (we watched from the restaurant).
Problem No.4. The cleaning staff decided to remove my personal washcloth from the bathroom and, even though the manager on duty said he saw it in the daily wash, ir could not be found again. For first-time travelers to Europe, most hotels do not provide face-cloths (so I always take one or two as, at 81, I am set in my ways and like to use a face cloth).
Problem No 5. This does not directly affect customers, but the whole place looks very neglected, with paint peeling on the exterior surfaces (doors, windows, balconies, walkways, etc.).
GOOD POINTS: 1). as at all « Campanille » where my wife and I have stayed over the past twenty-five years, the restaurant is excellent, with a great choice of items at the buffet breakfast and for dinner;
2). the staff (and only the staff) are extremely pleasant and apologetic for the state of the facility. As in most such cases, management is squarely to blame.
