staff were excellent room was clean breakfast was the best one we have ever had in one of these "budget" hotels we didn't understand why people had given such a bad review the only problem was it was a bit further afield than we expected but we would definitely stay there again

Chipped paint, stained carpet and curtains, smell of damp dog. Some dodgy looking clientele. All this combines to make this a place to avoid like the plague.
On a positive note, staff were very nice and food was OK.
I tend to give positive reviews where I can. This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in since backpacking days in South America (& most of those were much better than this)...

Booked in for 2night stay first impressions was omg what have I booked her security gated car park good and reception girl really nice but that’s it. 1guy smoking cannabis outside and another having an argument with partner. When when got to the room it didn’t get any better dirty and out dated but judging by the clientele I wouldn’t bother updating to be fair. This is not a hotel but a dumping ground for the council I think. Walls wafer thin and groups shouting and laughing till the small hours not great when you got work first thing. Shower head broken and bed really soft and lumpy.

On the good side, car park is gate secured, and check in staff were pleasant, and that is all the good points that we can think of.
When entering the room, we found it to be very small, very smelly and tired looking.one of the bathroom lights did not work, towels were dirty and well used, could do with replacing for new towels, no small hand towel, no soap for the sink, and no bath mat, as floor was tiled and became slippery when wet.
No hairdryer. Disliked the paper cups and only two teabags. Some of the furniture was damaged.
Everything about this room was shabby and dirty and well out of date.
This place is really not worth the money paid, we have not stayed anywhere like this before, and will NEVER return to a Camponile Hotel anywhere.
for the money they are charging and believe us it is not cheap, they could do with spending some of this money on refurbishing the rooms.
This hotel is NOT suitable for couples, single ladies, and families. It is aimed for the contract workers, as there were plenty of them there and also this is what we were told by the check out staff.

Myself and my family were visiting Basildon for my great aunties 80th birthday and thought the campanile was perfect for our 1 night stay. And price was pretty good too. So we booked 5 rooms as there was 10 of us staying. Turns out there was a reason for the price. The rooms were tiny, out dated and dusty. Looked nothing like their photos. I shared a room with my mum which had old bottle tops on the floor and dirty towels. My cousin and her partner has another room which they barely wanted to stay in as the smell was so unpleasant. Smelt of damp and wet dog. My auntie couldn't even stay in her bed as all the bed sheets were ripped. After our meal we decided to go back to the hotel bar and have a drink. The only choices of larger on tap were Stella or bud light. My cousin decided to go for a Stella. It was awful no life in it whatsoever. When we ask for a new one the lady behind the bar simply changed the glass which didn't make a difference so we asked for a complete new pint and that didn't go down well. The lady wasn't happy about having to pour another pint and moaned to her colleague. Overall not a great experience. Will not be returning for another stay at the campanile.
