My mother and I had a great stay at Cardiff by the Sea Lodge. Cardiff is a great little beach town, and the hotel is maybe a 5 minute walk from the beach. The hotel is definitely a little funky - we stayed in the Roosevelt room which had a crazy pink (huge) walk in shower. But the room was large, had a mini-fridge, AC, comfy bed, and ocean views. What else do you need?! maybe a roof deck with a jacuzzi and ocean views and fire pit?!
We checked in, walked to the beach to watch the sunset, went around the corner to have a great casual dinner at Best Pizza & Brew (there are a bunch of restaurants, cafes and bars in walking distance of the hotel), and then went up to the roof deck to hang out by the fire pit, drink wine, and toast marshmallows (with complementary smores ingredients from the hotel).
The staff were super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back next time we are in southern California!!

The staff here is amazing
They are very welcoming, super friendly and extremely accommodating!
The location is simply superb - the beach is a 3 min walk away, with several good breaks within stone’s throw.
The sunsets from the rooftop patio are to die for.
Only small complaint - the beds could be a bit more comfortable.
We’d definitevely stay here again!

Quaint, Quiet, Walkable to Cardiff attractions. That said with upcoming renovation in near future some areas are outdated, however awesome staff makes up for it. We would stay again!
Best A Wan Pizza (take out), Great Pizza Place, Pipes, Seaside Market, Starbucks, Beach 3-4 blocks away. Wonderful location to relax and rejuvenate.
Themed rooms were so much fun and we enjoyed meeting fellow travelers too. There are so many niches throughout this Lodge you feel that you are there alone enjoying the amenities mostly in private - that gives you a 5/5 in my book.

Spent 5 days at this fun property. If you want unique, close to the beach, tasty breakfast, and fabulous customer service, this is your place! I've been to SD many times and have never been to Cardiff. Hidden gem, away from the big city madness. And a big shout out to Dawn! She turned us onto a couple awesome places we didn't know existed. And she called us by name when we saw her. Had a great time!

I stayed at the lodge for two nights in the Lattice Room...I asked for the darkest room as I really wanted to sleep in...this room was perfect! Very quiet, comfortable foam top mattress, plenty of pillows to choose from...absolutely no complaints! The roof top was a blast! Both nights we were the only people up there! When the roof closed at 10pm, we walked next door to the bar and played pool! Location is amazing...walk to beach, Seaside Market, liquor store...brought dinner in both nights to eat on the roof and watch the sunset! The staff was GREAT, extremely accommodating and friendly! I highly recommend a few nights when in the area!
