First off, I never would want to give an establishment a bad review but I really don't want anyone else to experience a night in this hotel.
My fiancé booked a room here for my birthday and got completely ripped off. Check-in was pleasant but as soon as we got to our room we couldn't believe our eyes. It smelled of gas along with a musty mildew smell. The bedding coverlet was dingy and dated (sheets were clean but we found a spider in our bed--- eeekkk). Most of the furniture was broken and chipped. The shutters were broken, we had to put a pillow up for privacy. There were burn holes in the lamp shades. The list goes on but this place needs some serious TLC and for $350/nt they should be able to keep up appearances.
Everything else in town was booked by the time we tried to get a refund which is quite impossible to do unless you go through your bank. We stayed the night but were very uncomfortable. The upside of this place is that its close to town but that's about it.
They shouldn't charge more than $50/night for a room. Don't waste your money here!!!

Quaint place, nice staff, good breakfast. Rooms are older but nice views and well taken care of. Worth the price, its reasonable. The grounds are nice, outsdoor fireplace and patio area. Close to downtown so an easy walk.

Very limited parking. The bed/pillow had dark hairs on them and were just plain dirty, the room felt overall dirty. I dreaded sleeping on the bed. The free continental breakfast in the morning was reasonable. I gave 1 point for the friendly older gentleman at the front desk and 1 point for location of the hotel. I loved Carmel, but if I returned I would not come back to this hotel.

I booked a reservation for my wife's birthday over a week ago. The reservation was supposed to be for tomorrow(10/21). I called yesterday to confirm and the person I spoke to said he didn't see my reservation and I should speak to the owner. I called back today and spoke to the owner. The guy said the reservation had been cancelled and they are completely booked. This was a total lie, as I and booking.com had proof of an active reservation. The owner did absolutely nothing to accommodate and said it wasn't his fault. My wife and I have always had great experiences at the lodging establishments in Carmel. The quaint lodgings are part of the charm of Carmel. We will never even think about staying at this place again, there are many other great establishments in the area that take pride in excellent customer service and appreciate their guests.

Don't expect any interest in finding your stuff. You know when you travel, you take your favorite shirts? And within 20 hours of leaving the Wayfarer, you call to tell them exactly where you left your 10 shirts? Three phone calls later by me, no shirts found. I am 100% sure where they were left. Nope - nothing found. The owner promised to call me back. No call. So.....honesty is important to me in a place where I stay. Not here.
