Upselling

This is my third visit to the Fox and Willow on this occasion we had an itison overnight voucher deal which was excellent value for money .. I have no complaints regarding the room , food , staff or service . However , on each occasion they have charged us over on the prosseco , we order a house prosecco and they then provide what the barman termed as an upsell prosecco, this is under hand and leaves a very sour taste . There is no need for this establishment to do this , you have a great product. If you are going to upsell or offer a more expensive premium product give the customer the choice and do not automatically assume .
Great Atmosphere!

Found this place quite by accident after a very blustery walk along the beach. It's not often I feel so comfortable in a place from the moment of crossing the threshold but this really felt almost like entering a private home. The ambience and decoration was warm and relaxing, just what was needed on a cold day.
Staff were very friendly and we were shown to a table straight away. Food was excellent, varied and well priced - great whether for a snack or something more substantial. If I have any niggle it was that we had to ask for further drinks, coffee etc, however, as we weren't in a hurry it wasn't too much of a problem.
We look forward to returning, with our dogs, when the weather is a bit warmer and we can relax in the Beer Garden. Would like to keep this place a secret really but definitely somewhere to recommend!
Birthday Dinner Last Night

Service was excellent. Food first class. Had bang bang king prawns to start and they were amazing, followed by a steak. Perfect birthday experience. Great atmosphere and feel to the place. Five Stars.
Evening meal - just average

Is 'nouvelle cuisine' still a term that's used? Maybe, I'm getting older, but that term came to my mind after a meal here.
NC is all about the presentation, but I'm afraid that I didn't expect this when coming to the Fox and Willow. Large, rectangular plates, with another small bowl on top of the plate, and the food arranged vertically, like a pile of pebbles. Very pretty, but for me, I saw too much plate and not enough food.
The lamb I had was fairly tasteless and bland, but maybe that's not down to the restaurant and more to the food source. Yes, it was cooked well, but the whole main course neither left me satisfied nor full.
It's a casual dining pub / hotel, so ambience wasn't quiet, but that was fine - I wasn't expecting or wanting an intimate fine dining experience, just some good food in a light and jovial place.
All in all, while the meal wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't memorable, especially as I bought a bag of chips / fries on the way back to my hotel.

Ate here twice in a week whilst visiting the area, Sunday night was busy, but the staff were on the ball, seated and offered drinks very quickly, the food arrived in good time, and was of excellent quality, the portions were just the right amount, nice wine selection and very sensibly priced, there appears to be a lot of competition in the area, and this place can definitely hold its own. On my return visit midweek it was much quieter, but the service was just as good and the food again, of excellent quality and quantity.
