What People are saying

Depends how much you have paid if this is a worthwhile hotel to stop in.

louisedimes on 20/11/2017 17:51

Staff are good although never ask for a quiet room as you might like we were put next to the lift. We were moved very efficiently after asking. Good points the entertainment was excellent, the bar prices Sunday to Thursday good, the decor downstairs good and the bar snacks quite tasty. Sports area good.
Bad points were yobs (old and young) each night swearing without consideration in the main bar. No standards so hope drunken idiots are not in, breakfast was very mediocre compared to the Leeds Brittainia, The whole place had little faults, windows that did not close, marks, showers lacking much flow but we booked at a cheap price. Anything above £50 a night for B and B and I would be whinging. Car parking hit and miss 45 places to 180 rooms. Dog friendly but needs someone to put the barking dogs out of their misery in the early hours! Please!

Good basic hotel if you get out of season hotel and have ear plugs

kenblox on 20/11/2017 11:10

I have stayed here for a few days and found it good basic en suite accomodation which at the out of season rate I paid was good value.

Most of the time the staff were friendly and helpful, apart from the barman who said that he had no trays.

The rooms were, for the price well equipped, iron, hairdryer.

This was great for a short business trip where economy was paramount. However I was glad I had earplugs as the intermittent crashing of doors throughout night, together with loud generator noise from outside would otherwise have been a problem.

The hotel is a rabbit Warren with a remarkably strange room numbering system. My room 114 is on 3rd floor.

Maintenance seems to be the problem here. Like many other Britannia hotels, it has seen better days. One lift only worked intermittently and the overall decor is grubby.

Seems also to be limited TV channels on offer in my room at least.

However providing you don't expect too much and get a good rate it's fine.

Appearance is deceptive

How disappointing. If you are looking for a hotel that looks good from the outside, has unchanged dirty beds, reception with an attitude, a resident nutter at the bar, doesn’t deliver on promises (can I have a hairdryer please as there isn’t one in the room.... yes we will send one up, I’m on the ground floor! Never did get the hairdryer), no room service (what hotels these days have no room service? But clearly says in literature in the room and online this is provided), but lovely bar staff, then this is the hotel for you. To be fair I have stayed in worse (sadly!) but the unchanged bedding makes me rate nil points on the hotel crapometer.

Are Britannia Hotels running down their Hotels

BrianB321 on 14/11/2017 18:00

We booked a cheap Bargain break with UK Breakaways for 3 nights Dinner Bed & Breakfast. Until the week before I didn't realise that certain companies will not touch Britannia Hotels as they believe they are badly managed. Probably true in respect of Carrington House Hotel as I do believe it is being run down to be sold to a developer as a potential apartment site. However, we had a lovely visit for my wife's Birthday & for my wish to walk the Coast Path between Sandbanks & Hengisbury Head Visitor Centre which I achieved. Having said that I do hope that the Reception staff sort out my Credit Card Account. In addition the staff in the Dining Room & Housekeeping were excellent.

As you can see we were at this hotel last Christmas for a Turkey andTinsel which we enjoyed, how things have changed!
The three supposed days of Christmas were non existant!,Christmas day the highlight was 2 crackers on the table!,staff were not sociable and made no attempt to create any party atmosphere
Food was passable,nothing special,
The entertainment was very good as was the 99p bar.
All in all very disappointing
