My friends and I spent one night at the Casa Andina Colca Canyon as part of a 2-day tour. We chose this hotel, despite there be cheaper options, because the photos looked lovely and because it advertised having a planetarium/observatory.
We were very disappointed with the hotel and on balance, we would not recommend or stay there again, unlike most of the excellent accommodation we experienced in Peru.
Pros:
- The hotel porters were very friendly and helpful.
- The hotel grounds are really pretty (although the rooms are very basic)
- They allowed us to change the date of our stay in advance, via our helpful tour company.
Cons:
- The hotel was freezing. They provide electric blankets, which was good, and there's a small heater but it's still very cold and with the very dim lighting at nights, not a very enjoyable place to relax at the end of the day. Even the restaurant was cold (I had to return to my room do put on additional woollen layers) .
- As we chose this hotel over other options because of the planetarium observatory, we were massively disappointed to find out that it was closed, with no apology or explanation. We had to ask to find out and the receptionist was quite blunt and unhelpful. Others on our tour said it was also closed the previous night. I've read other reviews saying they also arrived to find out it was closed, so I do think the hotel needs to look into this as it's misleading and disappointing for guests.
- As mentioned above, the restaurant was very cold. It was also extremely slow and they mixed up orders more than once. Some people on the the same tour as us said they had to cancel their dessert order because it was taking so long. The food itself was quite pleasant but not exceptional. Various things were not in stock that we tried to order.
- They also included a restaurant service charge despite there only being my partner and I dining at our table (as opposed to a large group). I'm usually very happy to pay a service charge, and I always leave a tip, but the service was so bad we probably would not have tipped on this occasion and were unhappy we had no choice in the matter.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience but the hotel could be really lovely of the owners/management made some improvements.

Only stayed one night but enjoyed the atmosphere of this rustic hotel, the staff were very friendly, the log fires and general warmth was great. The beds were comfortable with the electric bankets. Food was good for dinner and breakfast.

Convenient for Colca canyon in rustic rooms, due to altitude electric blankets are available. Rooms are clean & tidy & about 10 mins walk from centre of Chivay.
Breakfast is okay as is evening buffet meal, quaint bar area with open fire to relax by.

We stayed here for one night in October, 2017. The rooms were actually sort of bungalows side by side (joined by a wall) and it was cold when we first got there. The porter turned on the portable heater and the beds had electric blankets. It would have been nice to come to a warmer room. We literally had to go to bed for a few hours and, by then, the room was fine. Internet was only in the main lodge so that wasn't great. Our room was very close to the main lodge so we were able to get it in our room (we discovered this later). Breakfast was okay - no complaints. They have a fireplace in the main lodge which is very nice. As we were close to the main lodge, it was noisy as many people standing around talking. Not sure I would stay there again - mainly because it was cold and the Internet. However, the room was clean and the shower was great.

We were 6 and stayed for 2 nights.
The hotel quality is what we got to expect from Casa Andina, having stayed at other of their properties.
Rooms were very comfortable, with electric blankets.
The hotel includes and observatory and the visit should be booked/reserved in advance.
Breakfast was very good and plentiful.
