needs refit
fletch010on 10/06/2017 21:42Aguas Calientes may be not the most picturesque town in Peru but it serves a purpose
so does this hostal all you can say was its ok.
On the plus side the bed was clean but no bedside lights and the switch for the main room light was by the door so you had to find your way to bed in the dark.
The bathroom had mould over the grout in the tiles and the sink was cracked.
Breakfast was next door in what appeared to be another hotel this is the only hotel in Peru I would not stay in again
Noisy but convenient
Colourqueen99on 10/03/2017 18:48This hotel is positioned between the railway line and the river. Consequently it is horribly noisy. The sound of the rushing river kept me awake for most of the night. However, the room was ok - the bed was clean, the bathroom and shower, not the cleanest I've seen on my tour but just about ok. The redeeming features were the breakfast which was served next door and was great, the desk staff who kept my luggage until I returned from the mountain, the free wifi and the proximity to the buses for Machu Picchu. All in all, it served its purpose.
Quiet retreat
Mary Louise Bon 28/09/2016 15:08A calm retreat after hiking the Inca trail. Clean and comfortable, with a nice courtyard. The front desk people were very helpful. Breakfast at a nearby restaurant was included. I would stay there again.
Was super surprised - Modern Clean Rooms with modern private bathrooms and a huge buffet breakfast
TheoA201on 15/07/2016 18:04The agency I booked a 4 day trek with (SAM TRAVEL PERU - who are amazing by the way!) booked me into here. I had a twin room with private bathroom for 1 person for 1 night. Given Aquas Calientes' reputation, I was expecting little. It way exceeded my expectations. Clean, modern rooms. Bathrooms are tops. And the best bit is the huge buffet breakfast which opens at 4.45am, great for a big day ahead in Machu Picchu. I see they have some bad reviews, but my experience way exceeded my expectations. Recommend!
noisy and dirty
silviaaroundtheworldon 29/10/2015 22:27I was ambivalent about the rating of this place as clearly it is basic accommodation so I didn't want to be too harsh just cause my tour had ended up here (ie fault of the tour organizer, not of the place), then I found out they request 50usd for a single room and 65 for a double, and was sure that this place deserves nothing better than a terrible, see below why
1. It's dirty. I dropped something from the bed-side table and while I was looking for it I realised not only that there is a world under the bed, but that it had not been cleaned even under the bedside table
2. Forget about resting unless you have wax ear plugs. The hostel is ON the tracks of the train to/from Ollantayambo, which in itself is a good reason to stay elsewhere: the whole structure resonates when trains go by. Also as all the rooms face the inside garden, you can't avoid the noise of your fellow travellers, or the cleaners that start at 6am. Moreover, when I visited in October they were adding a floor at the front of the building and started banging at 8 in the morning
3. The bathroom is held together with tape, literally. It seems they have taken to taping up all what needs fixing/replacement: the window to my bathroom was taped (with pieces of tape falling off of course as a wet environment is not ideal for cello tape), and the bottom of the door was taped, not sure why but really this shows lack of care
4. It's not even practical: A) there are 2 plugs for a double bedroom (of which one in the bathroom), in 2015 people need more access to recharge their devices. B) there are no hangers in the room, not even for wet towels, not sure how they expect towels to get dry in their humid, dark rooms. C) there is no heater, not even a portable one, if it's cold (and it does get cold at night here), then you'll have to make do with the blankets provided
5. The first room next to reception didn't have wi fi, let alone that wi fi was not generally working in the hotel when I visited in October (ie signal showed strong, still no access to internet)
6. They don't want you there: check-out is at 9, and breakfast is served till 8am
7. Personal preference, I don't like rooms where the only window faces a corridor where everybody can peek through, so that you have to decide between natural light and privacy
On a positive note, at the centre of the hostel is a lush, lovely garden, which you can look into if you're on the ground floor - rooms on the 1st floor will have the view over iron roofs
