Ok stay - restaurant/breakfast not as expected

It is sometimes striking how the relation between price (106 euro pp including breakfast) and service is not really existing. We slept two nights here and we found different things that we think are to be pointed out:
1. The bedroom is ok but nothing special. Clean but with a few spiders here and there. The bed for additional guests left in the corridor of the rooms is no good taste.
2. The breakfast is not that great as it is described in other reviews: moreover the responsible people should check the dishes that are offered to guests for picking food and stuff: they are DIRTY! Full with crusts that you can feel by touching with fingers. It is DISGUSTING to then use them for your own food.
3. The food in the evening a la carte was no particular experience. Basic level as per standard typical German restaurant. So if you wish to spend more and try fancy dishes for you and your wallet you might want to try the expensive Michelin place next to the hotel.
4. The waitress for our table was incredibly unfriendly, behaving strange and charging us big portion of food when we asked for smaller ones as written in the menu
5. The spƤtzle I had as a side to the meat I got were literally swimming in butter - practically they were uneatable
6. The "welcome of the kitchen" in case of ordering a la carte is always a sad pair of roast beef slices covered in mayo and with a few salad leaves with balsamico vinegar
For us the hotel is a 4 star if limited to the nice reception and to the wellness area. As far as rooms and restaurant/breakfast are concerned then we are speaking about a normal hotel with demanding prices if compared to what offered.
Superb facilities and great food

Placed in a beautiful Black Forest valley, Hotel Tanne provided a relaxing break with delicious food, friendly faces and lots to do.
Needed to use my will power at breakfast so not to eat my days intake before 10... Lots of variety and top quality.
The hotel 'e-bikes' provided a great way to see the surrounding area, and greatly helped getting up those steeps mountain tracks - and then speeding down at paceš.
The evening meal was again delicious.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
Wonderful Hotel and a Hidden Gem

This hotel is a 4 star standard in our opinion. I have visited this hotel many times for food and for attending family occasions. On this occasion it was a birthday celebration for my aunts 80th. We had a 5 course meal which was wonderful. The food is superb and staff always very friendly and attentive. There is a lovely outside terrace overlooking the forest with stunning views. I would always come back here when visiting the black forest.
Not as good as it was

A couple of years ago I wrote a 5/5 review of the Tanne. At that time it had been extensively refurbished and had added a superb bar and wifi to its offering and it was an excellent hotel for a get away holiday.
Having returned this year I was disappointed enough to remove my previous review and have taken my time before posting this review in order to fairly assess my visit.
First, the good points:
The food at the hotel is excellent with both the evening meal and the breakfasts being of a very high quality with a good selection. Service in the restaurant is (with one exception) both friendly and professional.
Reception staff are also friendly and helpful and the hotel has very good facilities for the price range.
Now the negatives:
The wifi service is struggling to cope, both in terms of capacity and range - at times it was unusably bad.
The bar service is atrocious - no other description will do. If you want a beer they can just about manage it - anything else (even drinks on their bar menu) they will struggle with. Billing in the bar is chaotic - KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS AND CHECK THE BILL WHEN YOU LEAVE.
The bar also plays VERY LOUD music (strange, given the average age of the guests) well into the night (past midnight). Make sure you do not have a room on the first floor unless it is at the back of the hotel (or unless you have good earplugs).
The hotel has (as several reviewers have noted) many "'StammgƤste" (regulars) - unlike the better hotels in Baiersbronn though it is very easy to feel like an outsider here (it's very cliquey).
This was my third visit to the Tanne - sadly, it was also my last.
A Hidden Gem!!

Schwarzwaldhotel Tanne is not a top reviewed hotel on Tripadvisor, but it is clearly a German favourite. When we arrived at this hotel, scores of locals asked us how we discovered their "secret" because generations of families have come here for decades for relaxation and pampering. And clearly more people should take notice.
If you are coming to this area, you either want a Black Forest retreat/relaxation or an incredible 3 Michelin star meal at the neighbouring hotel (Hotel Tanne Tonbach). We thought Schwardwald Hotel delivered in every way possible.
Location: Baiersbronn actually is made up of 9 or 10 villages. Baiersbronn and Tonbach are two of them. We arrived by train to the Baiersbronn HBF and was picked up by the hotel shuttle (approximately 7 min ride). I think there is an option of taking a taxi, and there certainly was parking available at the hotel. There is little to do in Tonbach proper, so you'd have to go to nearby Baiersbronn or Freudenstadt for that.
Rooms: We really loved the hotel. It was exactly the wooded German decor we anticipated with plenty of nice touches. The bedroom was expansive by European standards with a nice balcony and view (see photo). We had one of our best sleeps in Germany at this hotel...so good that we missed the complimentary breakfast and refused to go down when they called to make sure we were okay.
Service: The restaurant food is delicious. It is upscale but has a nice homemade touch. The salad bar and dessert bars are almost over the top in choice. There are several activities available depending on your time of year. The front desk had booked us a horse drawn carriage through the Black Forest (for a cost).
Spa: This is the reason why everyone comes. In the basement, there is a maze of massage rooms, saunas and steamrooms of varying temperatures and a beautiful serene pool. But the crowning jewel of this hotel is the incredible tree house spa that is a quick dash away. It is really something to be experienced. (See pictures)
This was by far our favourite and best stay in Germany. There is something to be said about affordability and quality, but also character and how it makes for a wonderful vacation.
