    What People are saying

    DON'T!

    GBF1987 on 28/10/2017 17:22

My partner and I stayed here for one night whilst visiting London to see a West End show as part of my 30th Birthday celebrations. The hotel is in a good location for the theatres and this is its ONLY positive point!

This hotel is awful and essentially needs to be thoroughly investigated by Environmental Health! Genuinely surprised it had never appeared on Ramsey's Hotel Hell - ironically what we were watching on the TV the morning we checked out.

When we arrived the man on the reception desk barely acknowledged we had arrived - there was no welcome or smile - it was a systematic request for name and then signing of the details. We were offered either a room on the third floor or a room on the lower ground floor - we opted for the third floor. There was no offer to help with the bags or showing us the way - just given directions and left to our own devices.

On the third floor landing, there was an old mattress and two/three bags of laundry just left there - this was about 5 in the afternoon and they were still there after we had seen the show and when we left the next morning!

When we entered the room (303), there was an awful smell of stale smoke in the room and when looking out of the window onto the ledge you could see the cigarette butts that had obviously been smoke out of the window to avoid going all the way downstairs again. Although would not be surprised if the smell was from back when people were allowed to smoke as it was clear it had not been redecorated for a good 20 years.

Upon inspecting the bathroom, there were dirty, cracked floor tiles and disgusting mould on the bathroom ceiling. The water comes out either scolding hot or freezing cold - there was no in-between - hot was even coming out of the cold tap.

The room was dated - the double bed was two singles put together and when we pulled back the duvet we found stained sheets and then only one of the singles had a mattress protector on it which was also stained with god only knows what and both mattresses had vile stains on them as well. We rang down to the reception and informed him and were offered the lower ground floor room instead.

The receptionist showed us this room - I say room, it was more of a box - very narrow and small the 'double bed' was just a slightly larger single and it took over the room - you would have to climb on it as you couldn't walk around it. The receptionist peeled back the smallest corner of the duvet and seem annoyed when we requested to see more and the actual mattress which was still stained. We opted for the 3rd floor room and requested that some clean sheets were put on the bed - which again seem to frustrate the receptionist guy as he claimed that there were no housekeeping staff available to do it. We had to wait almost 20 minutes whilst he eventually found a maintenance man to do it for him and he only opted to take the bed sheets and didn't even bother with the disgusting mattress protector. He came back with sheets that were too small for the bed so this delayed us further.

To say we chose to stay there anyway would be incorrect - we did not have much choice as we were on a time limit to get to the show - had we arrived earlier in the day, we would more than likely have opted to find a different place to stay.

We both opted to sleep on top of the duvet as it was the cleanest 'dirty' thing in the room. The bed itself was uncomfortable and I couldn't get to sleep until gone 4 in the morning out of sheer exhaustion from lack of sleep.

We had hoped that breakfast would be a small redeeming feature of our stay - we were very wrong! The breakfast room which was on the lower ground floor was cramped and uninviting. The waitress, with a strong foreign accent, did not so much ask what we wanted for the breakfast as told us what we were having. Aggressively talking at a rate of knots "Eggs - scrambled, boiled, fried!" and "Breakfast - beans, sausage, bacon, tomato!". Not great service at all. The breakfast itself was truly disappointing it came out within a minute of ordering (so pretty much cooked and kept warm rather than freshly done) - with a small chipolata size sausage, anaemic looking bacon and literally a tablespoon-sized portion of baked beans. Whilst there was other guests in the room as well it had an atmosphere that would make a mausoleum feel welcoming.

My partner risked the shower in the morning but I opted to wait until I got home given the state of the bathroom. As we left, housekeeping was sorting out rooms on the 2nd floor but had just chucked the towels and sheets on the stairs which made it dangerous to walk down.

Checking out was just as bad as checking in - no service, no hope you enjoyed your stay or hope to see you again or even a sorry about the room! Just handed the key-card over and left to leave in silence.

Needless to say we are pursuing a full refund so far without much luck mostly because the 'manager' is constantly unavailable or coincidentally just left! Even being told that he would contact us back but never has. We were also told that in order to obtain a full refund we would have to email - which we did - but no response to it has been given despite when we phoned again they acknowledge they had received it. We will be pursuing it at a higher level as well.

The hotel manager and staff should be ashamed of the cesspit they are running - lazy, uncaring, unmotivated and pride-less - avoid this hotel like the plague or risk catching it!

    The pits

Not a good place to stay at all. Small cramped room in basement near to breakfast room . Bed too small with a lean on it. Shabby decor, hairdryer broken, shower barely worked. Only positive is that is well located and central. Avoid this one

    Beware of their website

    Cathy A on 27/09/2017 19:28

Despite the charming photo at the entrance (true to life picture), behind the front door is entirely different. The website stated 'recently refurbished'. If this is true, then that must've been at least 20 years ago. At best the overall condition of wall panelling and was 'grimy' the doors were filthy with blackened greasy marks. Complimentary toiletries, 2 small soaps, 1 shampoo & conditioner. Water pressure in shower shocking. Bathroom had mould on ceiling and little effort to scrub it off walls had been made. The edges of the room were un-vacuumed and skirting boards extremely dusty - especially in the breakfast room. Was very warm inside and efforts to open window difficult as it was rotten and outside sill full of rubbish and discarded cigarette butts. Three extremely steep flights of stairs and no offer of help to carry bags. Looked for 'picturesque garden' shown on webiste, but couldn't find.

    Avoid

We Stayed here for one night and that was way too much-please avoid this 'hotel' at all costs. The rooms were awful and dirty and it is not a hotel experience-couldn't possibly stay for breakfast......

    Stay away

    Massimoduse on 09/08/2017 13:42

Straight to the point: stay away!
I've been here for 3nights with my girlfriend, as soon as arrived it was clear that pictures on the website were not at all representative of reality! The bedroom was old and extremely small. No comments about the bathroom, especially for shower and sink. But on top of this, everything there was deeply dirty and even after having brought our complains to the staff, they didn't do anything to fix the situation(they did the same with other guests). In two words: not recommended!
