Saw good reviews on here and decided to give it a whirl. Bit worried at first as our room - Henry - was on the front and the main road (crossroads) seemed exceptionally busy. However, when we got back to room it was fairly quiet and we had no trouble from traffic noise as the house was also well insulated. Room was large and very nice. Clean and comfy. As reported elsewhere parking is a problem. The nearest car park is just over the road and very convenient for the property. We heeded advice on taking coins but you would think that with such hefty parking fees the machine would take credit cards or notes as in other cities. The machine decided to play up but we eventually got a day ticket. This was valid until 7 pm. You then had to return to put on a £1.50 ticket for the evening which took you to 9.00 am next morning. Then you had to go and put on further hours for that day. What a complete faff!! Take LOTS and LOTS of coins!! Perhaps the council could think of an easier way of charging here. Maybe a pay on exit barrier. Or maybe they are making a nice little earner on the amount of money they make out of unsuspecting motorists. Am I being cynical here? Altogether a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommend.

This was my third visit to Charles House and this time I booked the Victoria Room. It's very large with a beautifully clean bathroom, and despite being on the main road, it's very very quiet. I had a brilliant night's sleep. This is a great little guest house, centrally located within easy walking distance of the shops, the castle and the railway station. I always stay here when I'm in the area. Barbara, the owner, who you won't meet is very friendly during the pre-arrival process and there's lots of information in the room. The key entry is perfect for coming and going whenever you like. And the Co-op over the road is great for snacks and necessities - very good indeed :)

Easy check in. Large comfortable room with all the necessities as well as some nice biscuits to go with the coffee. 10 minutes walk will get you to either the Thames or Wondsor Castle. There is also a convenience store opposite the road for snacks and drinks. The stairs are narrow and it can be hard to manouver a big and heavy suitcase up them. The house it on the corner of a fairly busy road and the traffic noise can be a bit of an irritation. There is a traffic light on the corner and motorcycles are not always discreet when accelerating. Parking could be a bit of an issue if you arrive by car.

Charles House is a Guest House with four rooms, all named after the Royals. We stayed in the Elizabeth Room. It was well appointed, medium sized room with an updated bathroom and refrigerator. The mattress was not the finest, but it sufficed. We were given a code to get in the front door if we were to arrive too early to check into the room. We also had a code to get into our room so no keys were needed. It was easy to find the guesthouse and 5 minutes to walk into town.
Even though the owner was not there, she was available by phone if there was any problem. She assisted us with a taxi to the airport for the next morning. Recommended!

The owner accommodated our request for early check in so we could sleep after our overnight flight to the UK. This was a huge help. So, outstanding service. The room itself was a bit small, but the early check in was so helpful that it dwarfs all other considerations.
