What People are saying

Bed, no breakfast

Beentherenback on 31/08/2017 21:16

The room was nice enough and the place is cute. Quaint as with many B&Bs and clean, but not what I'd normally choose. Decent location at the end of town, off the main street a block or two. The manager informed us there would be no breakfast and no explanation or price adjustment was offered. We'd reserved the room we liked best, and to our dismay, since there was no breakfast, she assumed that rather than adjusting the price, we'd prefer an upgrade to the two room suite. We didn't like that room or want that room, which was why we didn't choose it. We didn't find that out till we were on our way (via email, not a phone call) and she'd already left the property and left the room open for us, so we had no option but to stay in the "upgraded" room she decided on. Frustrating. There were all the usual amenities, but I didn't like the decor, which was why we chose the other room. Isn't that part of the reason you stay in a B&B - to get a cute room you like? Seems to me she could have left us a couple of yogurts and a bagel or pastry or something instead of moving us to a room we didn't choose, or she could have given us $20 off the room rate. We did have breakfast at a nice little restaurant on Lincoln, so it worked out fine. Just not a great way to do business and not what we'd asked for. Everything else was okay.

Cosy room but ...

We stayed one night in the comfy lavender room with pretty gardens and good facilities, in a convenient position in the town. However unlike other reviews we were so disappointed at the lack of on sight support. We had arranged by email to be there between 4/5pm but on arrival found a notice to say that the office was closed but with a contact number for someone 'on the property'. Our room was unlocked with a welcoming letter. This would have perhaps have all been ok, we unloaded our bags and headed for town. On our return we were unable to unlock the door, several phone calls later we discovered there was no on sight support and if we could not get in it was probably going to take an hour for someone to get there! A Good Samaritan from a neighbouring property helped us remove the screen from the window and breaking to the property this took less than 5 minutes to achieve! The problem was the dead lock which as a security feature (unbeknown to us ) should not have been locked from the outside. Given the speed and ease of breaking into the property we question how secure the properties are. This was not just our property, as our Good Samaritan neighbours later managed to lock themselves out of their own property and gained entry by a similar route. The owner was apologetic and did offer us another property but there would have been no one to help with the move. This is no way to run a business!

Lovely place to stay

Craig A on 19/07/2017 19:19

We stayed in Napa for two nights, one in Downtown Napa and one in Calistoga. The accommodation was lovely, pretty much an apartment with washer and dryer etc. The place is very well situated a short walk from the main street with lovely bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed the stay and would definitely return on our next visit. It was very hot when we were there although it was only in May. I used the pool which needed a little refurbishment but nothing major. I'm guessing not many people were using it at that time of year and that work is probably done now. That should not detract from staying here. Chelsea met us on arrival and was very friendly and made us feel really welcome. Calistoga itself is beautiful and we'd recommend it highly if you visit Napa Valley.

Cozy Two Bedroom Cottage

teknozen on 06/06/2017 21:51

Chelsea, whom I suppose the cottage was named after, welcomed us somewhat stiffly and business like. We liked the cottage enough, warm and cozy, but the access (through the back door) dook us through some overgrown tree branches that both my daughter and I struggled with to avoid getting poked in the eye or our hair messed with. I mentioned the problem, when I inquired about getting a key for the front door, but no key was produced nor was there any trimming of the branches in the back. The other issue was laundry. We were only there one night for a nearby wedding, and we hoped to get some fluff and fold done in order to have fresh clothes later in the evening or in the morning. I asked Chelsea about options but the place she recommended was closed. I checked with her again, and she said she did not know of any laundry facilities. Later I noticed the office door open and the from across the road I could see a washer and dryer just inside the door. I made reference to it at which time she said in a perfunctory fashion, "these facilities are not for guests." In her favor, she prepared a bag of ice for for the road, but we won't be returning to Chelsea's Garden Inn.

Beautiful property, gracious hosts, perfect for a group!

Andrea M on 05/04/2017 17:47

I organized a large group visit to this property in March 2017. We utilized the full house as well as several of the cottages. Every detail was looked after. Our experience was truly amazing. It was very clean, very comfortable and well appointed. Chelsea was wonderful to work with and I very highly recommend staying here if you are coming to Napa Valley. I travel here with a group every year on business and we will most definitely be coming back to the Chelsea Garden Inn and Chien Cottages. Excellent!
