What People are saying

Amazing weekend for myself

Lindsey M on 05/11/2017 02:32

I was in major need of a weekend to myself to gain perspective and make some hard decisions. My two requirements were mountains and a spa. I found Chetola on the Internet and it was a really reasonable price so I booked it. I could not be happier with my experience. The property is gorgeous and the restaurant was phenomenal. It's the best steak I've ever had. The room was great and the bed was heavenly! I had a massage at the spa and it was amazing, and reasonably priced! My stay included a complimentary hot breakfast which was great. The staff has been extremely accommodating, and I will definitely be back.

Could've been 5 stars.......

I'm a frequent traveler/reviewer and had very high hopes after seeing the website for Chetola and had also been referred by neighbors.

First, the good news. The property was spectacular. Beautiful, well kept, picturesque. Our room (Lakefront Deluxe King with Balcony/Room 204) was clean, spacious, and very cozy.
The front desk staff was friendly, efficient and available. The lobby was warm and welcoming, very cozy. The restaurant was wonderful, food delicious. We ate there for the breakfast buffet which had a great variety and everything we ate was fantastic. The dinner was equally great and the server was wonderful. We also ordered room service and it was quick and the food was hot and delicious.

Now the not so great news. After booking this particular room specifically to enjoy the peaceful property and enjoy the fresh mountain air from our requested balcony room we were so disappointed to discover that there was construction going on right out in front of our room for a retaining wall that was damaged by a storm that came through the day before our arrival. Now I understand there is no good time to complete construction, but the sounds of the construction vehicles and the constant alarms and other sounds was constant, loud, and very distracting. For people that like to travel away from the resort it was likely no big issue, but the resort was our destination and the plan was to spend our time there relaxing and enjoying the serenity and natural beauty it seemingly had to offer. We reluctantly shut the balcony doors to lessen the noise but it was still very noticeable and detracted from the peace we were seeking. Considering we paid extra for the balcony specifically to enjoy it for the entirety of our stay we were disappointed that we did not benefit from this additional expense.

Our room was clean, as I mentioned before. The cleaning staff seemed friendly, at least from what I could tell in passing. However. As if the construction noise wasn't enough, the cleaning staff was yelling and laughing to each other down the hall which reverberated into our room for hours during the day. I was conflicted about reporting it. On the one hand, it was great to see they were enjoying each other and having a good time at work. It didn't seem to affect their work. But again, we were paying for a peaceful, calm retreat and this was more like the sounds of a party cruise. Sadly, we spent less time in our room then we wanted to and were unable to have the relaxing romantic two days we planned due to the noise inside and noise outside. Both easily fixed, and beyond those things I'm sure I would've reviewed 5 stars. Will we return or recommend to our friends and neighbors or fellow reviewers ? I'm not sure if we would risk it considering the expense. We pay more to have a certain standard from a resort like Chetola and when we mentioned our frustration regarding the construction to the front desk we were offered nothing beyond some shrugged shoulders and hope it would only last for a day (it didn't). Bummed.

Unexpected get away and it was fabulous! Highly recommend this resort!

Beautifully appointed grounds and rooms, every staff member was gracious and welcoming, and the location is perfect! Upon booking our stay, we shared it was a quick get away for our Anniversary. When we arrived, the management had placed an assortment of chocolate covered strawberries for us in our room. This gesture was very kind and unexpected. If you are planning a get away, definitely give Chetola Resort a try as you will not be disappointed!

Disappointing Stay

Nancy E on 29/10/2017 03:41

My husband and I have stayed at Chetola several times over the past two years and have always enjoyed our stay. We have stayed at the Timberlake Inn as well as the Lodge. This time we stayed in room 2 at the Inn. The room was very small and was on the second floor over the restaurant. The room was clean and had a great lake view but was so noisy from people dinning outside the restaurant to the live music in the bar area. The floor in this room slants downhill. One of the perks for staying at the Inn is the pantry stocked with soda, coffee and water. On three occasions during our stay there was no water. The pantry was also locked one evening. It also sound like someone was playing basketball on the floor above us.

The worst part and a huge safety and security issue was the lock on our door would not latch. We came in from the afternoon with our door wide open. We went immediately to the front desk and the staff member sent someone to repair the lock. The next morning it was still not working so they had to send someone again. It is unnerving that anyone could have just walked into our room and had access to our personal items. When we checked out the staff member asked us how our stay was - we told him very disappointing. He did not say anything. I work with the public and would think that the front desk would get a manager involved with such a security issue. We don't mind paying for good service; but think we were greatly overcharged for our stay. I was very disappointed that the hotel manager never contacted us about our visit.

This was supposed to be a very peaceful and relaxing stay - instead we returned home tired and stressed. Chetola you can do better!!

A great inn... big value for the money. Close to slopes

This Inn was a great combination of Country Club Posh on the front and where it counts, and simplicity and value in the rooms. It was very close to the The French Swiss Ski School where my kids took snow boarding lessons. The Breakfast at the Bob Timberlake part of Chetola was wonderful and we went every morning. Staff was very kind and attentive. Will stay here again... I was very pleased.
