Interesting castle like Hotel

Hotel looks like a french chateau with polite efficient staff. Rooms match the appearance of hotel i.e. old fashioned. The room was hot but opening the windows and using the fan provided soon cooled it down. It was quiet we did not hear any noise from the other guests. It was right next to the main (for us) attraction the fortress which ran tours into the underground defences.
Hidden jam / improvements needed

I spent 5 night in the hotel with my family using it as a base for our visits around Namur.
The hotel is located in the top of the Citadelle in a splendid park and the exterior look of it is extraordinary.
On top , no problems with the parking , very quite and 2 min away of the Citadelle.
The hotel is also a kind of hospitality school for young people trying to learn how to serve and work in a restaurant.
Still , the hotel is needing renovation for the rooms ( doors/ furniture/carpets) that are left somewhere in 70'.
The restaurant is having a limited menu and is quite expensive but the food is great.
Be aware of bicicles usage ; despite the "complimentary " offering image , the hotel will charge you 40 euro for a few hours.
Nobody was telling me about and the final check was diminushing my final impression about it.
Allthe best

What can I say, what a truly awful experience. Four people in our party. We were each given two menus, a set menu, an a la carte menu. Three of our party opted for the set, I opted for the a la carte as I am a vegetarian, told by the waiter we can't do this, the entire party have to have the same menu! This entailed lobster as a starter, duck as a main, lovely for me, nothing I can eat. I said I would pick round and eat the veg. My friend spoke to the Maitre D and explained that I was a veggie to which we was told 'tough luck that's our policy the entire party has to have the same menu'. Is the chef so bad that he can't cope with two menus, never experienced this before. This is a government owned Belgium training school. Customer service is appalling, they need to take a tip from the USA. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant in my life. Avoid at all cost
Everything we expected from the picture

While I refer to Trip Advisor’s reviews a lot, I have never actually written a review. This is my first because I felt compelled to. My wife and I were looking for a hotel in Namur and looked at the reviews for Chateau de Namur. Some of them were negative regarding the service, maintenance, and décor. So we chose another hotel based on those reviews. We toured the Citadel on our last day of the visit and saw Chateau de Namur close by – literally within walking distance. We went to see what we had decided against.
Upon approach, the grounds are very well maintained and attractive. We went in and toured the common area and asked to see a room. Everything was what we would have hoped for in a classic grand hotel (granted the furnishings, while totally acceptable, are not of the latest style – but again it is a classic grand hotel). It was clean and well maintained. We decided to extend our stay in Namur just so we could stay there. We totally enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this hotel. It is a training ground for students but that was a plus for us because the student staff was charming and tried hard to do everything perfectly (although a little formal for us Americans). We used the hotel’s bikes to ride the bike trail alone the Meuse River (25 miles RT). The electric assist was handy returning up the mountain back to the hotel. One item to be aware of is, like many hotels in Belgium, there is no AC and it was unusually hot during our visit. But given its perch high on the hill top, there was a breeze that kept the room comfortable during the night. Also, the restaurant was not exactly cheap. Prices were comparable to other hotels with a nice restaurant. But the food was excellent and dining al fresco on the terrace with a view of the river and surrounding area was a bonus. Altogether, our stay at the Chateau de Namur was one of the highlights of our visit to Belgium
For context, we are fairly seasoned travelers and have stayed at everything from B&Bs, to VRBO’s, to Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons and have fairly high expectations, but we judge based on the total experience rather than any one single component. The total experience at Chateau de Namur was very positive. If we ever visit Namur again, we will definitely stay there again.
Beautiful setting, but only average accommodations.

Chateau de Namur is set high above the small city of Namur in a beautiful area of Belgium, close to all WWII "Battle of the Bulge" sites. The hotel exterior is beautiful, and it has lovely gardens, including a large rose garden. Ample parking. Interiors are drab and underfurnished. Rooms are the same, and look as if no renovation has been done in quite a long time, except for the modern bathrooms. Our room was quite small and had a tiny window, which as it was summer and hot, provided little breeze. We asked for and received two fans. There is no air conditioning, but in normal Belgian weather at this altitude, that's probably not a problem.
The most disappointing aspect is the food. While the breakfast buffet is perfectly fine, the dinners are prepared by cooking school students and are hit or miss.
