I visited Rio de Janiero last week with two others and we stayed here. Very cheap, but my friend said his room smelled a little. In the first room I stayed in, some of my roommates discovered bed bugs in their beds. I was very lucky and did not have bedbugs in my bed, but we all had to evacuate the room. However, once we told the staff of the issue they found us new rooms and my new room was fine. I thank the staff for being responsive to our needs. The shower was clean. Some of the front desk staff speak English, some don't (but some who don't can speak Spanish). Breakfast is fine. Wifi doesn't work in the rooms but works in the lobby and the common room area.This hostel offers men-only and women-only rooms, which I liked. It's in an okay area of Rio but it's very easy to wander onto nearby streets that aren't as safe, so be careful when traveling alone at night. This is an average hostel, some hostels are cleaner but my friend said he's stayed in a lot of hostels much worse than this.

I stayed at cuidade maravilhosa in Rio de Janeiro for 5 nights in feb 2015. It was disgustingly dirty. The first night my bed had bed bugs and I was covered in bites when I woke up the next morning. The hostel staff told me that they would put poison down to kill the bugs but the following night was no better, I woke with even more bites (over 40 on each arm) After this I slept in a hammock in the common room because they wouldn't find another bed for me. Also during my stay my phone was stolen by the staff. I know this because once I got home my iPad (which is linked to my phone for photos) had multiple photos taken from inside the office and behind the reception area of the hostel. Would not recommend this hostel to anyone, BEWARE!

The staff are helpful, with more or less English spoken. The rooms are, so so. I mean not very good, but just okay. Due to someone strongly blowing nose, I didn't sleep well during the night, but I don't think it's their fault. The location is very good indeed, and the price during the FIFA World Cup is fine in Rio de Janeiro.

Staff tried to be helpful, although no English spoken, but the state of the rooms are a bit crappy. This is very much a money making venture and not a particularly good experience for guests. Breakfast was adequate though. Blame lies with owner. Don't stay here unless desperate.

I waited about 10 minutes but she seems still were busying on her facebook...then I talked to her first...told me my 4 bed room is not available upon my booking, she said she can give me a discount for staying 6 bed room....the room is terrible...an other old guy occupied the whole lockers! she said she will check which one i can use, I waited for 5 minutes and she didn't come back, I went downstairs and saw she was still busy on facebook.....then I asked her how much should pay? she said 40 BRL!! that's the normal price, I asked her for her promise, she said she meant she won't charge me 45 BRL which was 4 bed room price....so ridiculous..
