Budget Accommodation in the Trendy Part of Melbourne Central Business District

Melbourne's accommodation generally is quite pricy (though not as bad as Sydney), so at around A$70 (in April), this place is truly a "budge" hotel.
The room generally is not big (though not too small either) and bathrooms are shared. All the rooms are on 2nd and 3rd floor but there is no elevator in the building. Thus, it is not a good idea if you have very heavy luggages.
It is located at the eastern edge of Central Business District, which is just steps from Victoria's parliament building and Melbourne's theatre district. There are also many hip bars and restaurants hidden in the laneways nearby. The access to public transportation is generally very good because it is close to the stops of quite a few tram lines.
Overall, there are not much to like about the hotel itself. However, the main advantages of its location and its price make it a ideal choice for many travelers who do not want to sleep in dorm rooms of hostels.
Ok room

Solo travelled looking for a cheap room which wasn't a hostel.
The room was basic as to be expected, slightly dusty but in overall good condition.
Hotel was located close to transportation as centrally centred. I did feel a bit wary a nights travelling on my own back to the hotel as it is located down a side street.
Toilets/showers are communal, they were okay but guests hygiene isn't as clean as mine.
Excellent accommodation

We have stayed at this motel many times. Very safe, very clean. Great location. There are two rooms with their own bathroom, which we usually stay in either one. Otherwise, there are shared bathrooms. We have used the shared bathrooms on occasion, and they are very clean. Free internet. Service is fantastic. Clive couldn't have helped us enough. Same with Paul. Will always stay here when visiting Melbourne. Walk to MCG, Aus Open, Etihad etc. Walk to China Town, theatres, all the good shopping.
Visit to family

Motel well located and close to transport and restaurants in Victoria Street. Room was on second floor and reception on first floor. No lift so had to use stairs which was quite difficult for me having recently had a hip replacement and 74 years old. Not really suitable for older people. On returning to our room on second day, room smelt of cigarette smoke indicating staff had smoked in room despite being a non smoking room.
Decent room

I actually got lost looking for the hotel. I walked straight past it, so it pays to be eagle eyed when looking for it. The room was reasonable for one person and was clean when i first entered. I was given a slip of paper with the wifi password, but only found the signal strong enough a couple of times. There was a mini fridge in the corner. It was unplugged when i arrived. The person who checked me in was really helpful when i asked how to get to the MCEC and told me which stop to get off at so i didnt go past the free tram zone. There are several tram routes that are an easy walk from the hotel. I attended a convention that went most of the day, so i pretty much used the hotel as a place to sleep. There are no staff overnight, and you are given a code to enter the hotel if you arrive back after 9pm
